Billa(2007)

So the long wait is over and Ajith has delivered Billa at the right time when there is not much movies at this moment to compete.The initial verdict is "Movie is a hit and it’s the style which has made this movie to be a hit" .But if you ask me as a commoner it’s a 50-50 for Billa from my side.I give great thumbs up to Costumes and Camera,which I would say will be a trendsetter for Tamil cinema.

It takes immense courage to remake a movie after 25 years when the original Billa is still ruling the Tamil Cinema.But still the remade Billa has paid honour to original Billa in a stylish manner.New version of Billa has not taken any change in the plot and it has definite shape of each characters but has omitted a main character of JJ which was originally played by Thengai Srinivasan,which is intended to bring a different lock in the whole plot.I strongly feel the omission of the character has let down the movie in many ways.Even in the Hindi version it was played by Arjun Rampal.Vishnuvardhan did not experiment in the story line as Farhan Akthar did in his remake .He has maintained all the character in their same shoes,but they have been maintained to standstill through out the movie not performing.

The story line of Billa is as the same old Billa and Ajith does the dual role of Billa and Petty thief Velu.There can not be a better person than Ajith for doing the role of Billa ,he looks stunning like a international poster boy with his wide side locks and Armani suits.Ajith has tried a versatile body language thankfully for the first time for this movie and has made it appealing.But what is disappointing from Ajith is he walks,walks ,walks …….there is not stoppage till the end.The original character of Billa is a statement of supremacy ,cunningness and malevolence but Ajith does not gives the look of any of such traits.I would say The more you love the second billa the more you don’t know about the original Billa .The dance sequence and dialogues from Ajith is a big disappointment and the Seval Kodi song and the Vethalaya Pottendi looks Horrendous for Ajith's Movement.But Ajith does all the patch works through his BMW Cars ,Ray Ban Goggles and Leather jackets.

Nayathara’s strides and looks are stunning but the hype about her character fades away with the movie.The character has nothing to offer but to stand along with Ajith.I am surprised why Vishnu vardhan did not have hope on making the characters speak a bit.Sripriya and Zeenat Aman did in the past ,even Priyanka chopra did amazing work in Don but Nayanthara looks amazingly stunning above all of them but performance wise it’s a Zero for her.None of the characters speak they maintain a strange dumb even for a forceful scene.Prabu,Aditya and Raguman have given a different outlook for Cops in Tamil cinema and those are the only characters which speak in the movie.I am not satisfied with the dialogues written for the movie.Billa or Don only the Dialogues made it big and more big .Orginally penned by Salim –Akthar the dialogues of Don was a big inspiration for Tamil Billa.But remake Billa has very less dialogues.Its understandable with Ajith, execution of dialogues is a tough task and the style can be taken noted only with less dialogues.

The Camera and Costumes are taken care by Neerav shah and Mrs.Vishnuvardhan and they deserve a applause for their impelling effect work done on their respectively.But what makes Billa click with all these let downs is the Ajiths charisma and the stylish frames.Frame by frame Billa is a new breed to Tamil cinema with respect to appearance.But if introspected in the material of the movie it’s a huge disappointment from the team.The movie slogs down in many places and its lacks pace since the plot sticks to a strange frequency .Vishnu Vardhan should have drilled Ajith in dance and dialogues which would have made Billa a intense and racy movie and would have matched Older Billa in all aspects.

Still Billa would be a Hit for its outlook ,Charisma and Camera for which it will definitely be a trendsetter .
