Vikram Vedha (2017)

You expect some thing from an actor or character and it gratifies you. Alright – this is what I anticipated from you , Thanks a lot, move on. And then the movie grows in you. Some where the second fiddle takes the throne slowly over a period. Remember Anbe Sivam – For the first few months every one celebrated Kamal’s performance. Film bombed. Then Madhavan started growing in you for his inoculating performance.  Why does that happen for some actors. Many actors has the potential to beat the main protagonists. Vijay Sethupathi is the devil and the Madhavan is the Vampire King. He eats Vjs throughout the movie, though there is a fine line in distinguishing their characters.

One of the best thing about Vikram Vedha is its continued story telling ability in its intense moments. I would be definitely perplexed  if I haven’t paid attention for some of the collapses which happened in the second half. Such an thorough gripping movie with no deviations. Vikram Vedha is good times for cinema, this tight script is an evolution from Va Quarter Cutting, Oram Po to Vikram Vedha, I would rather name it as  genuine Introspection of Pushkar Gayathri. Lot was expected when Oram Po released; it had quirky comments, dark humor but the film didn’t make noise as expected. Vikram Vedha isn’t your Cop – Mob story or story about a Don. This is about characters which neither justifies nor takes revenge. .

Some of the scenes are predictable, you may see Seven (When he surrenders - see video above ) , You may see Mean streets and some shades of City of Gods

You can’t deny the influence but there are classic scenes in Vikram Vedha which has to be celebrated. The Mutton and Poratta scene is a dip in your passion towards everything a good scene can do to a good script. I would definitely give that scene a built up as the best scene I have watched in some time. Vikram is a usual cop , not intelligent, but he is brutal , he is like Anbuselvan. He is left cheated, he is left perplexed , he is beaten, he is hallucinated, he plays the fair game through out. He answers even in his tough times, he takes silly decisions, much predicted But he never gives up. None other than Madhavan can bring that untiring energy as Vikram. There is a scene in the climax shoot where he claims himself with his gun; he absolutely beats the monster in Vijay Sethupathi by a huge margin with his composed performance.

At a point when we had strong opinion about Vijaysethupathi’s performance – I wanted him to fail miserably like Rekka, Every one in the movie hypes Vedha – it’s a cake walk for an actor like Vijaysethupathi. Whats not easy is the wit and humor which flows with a greater sense of timing. He nags and disturbs the concentration of a stern animal, just to make him feel that he is creating mockery. But in the process , he is been telling a story, he escapes by provoking Vikram at the maximum extent. Also he is mocking at his very own performance every frame, the man just brings a greater intensity with his onscreen idiosyncratic , yet powerful mechanics in his performance. He questions the moral compass of the system and he even brings the best out of Vikram when he meets. And thats what you call a real flesh and Blood encounter

Credit should be for the  movie bringing the two best actors and Writers of the script. This can be called as genuine thriller with a question to the Police system on encounters but nevertheless it is a classic encounter of beasts  performing in an intelligent script. The writers provide the clue throughout the movie and they wait patiently to show a much deeper grave; And by the time you realize, you are definitely taken back. Its more intrigue with the visuals and the Electric guitars of Sam CS music.

Beating every thing around, over a period of time, Madhavan will regain the throne slowly and its bound to happen after months. The man usually swamps the whole crew to come out visibly and remarkably. Vikram Vedha can be the best of the year till date and Its such a good time for script writing.
