There is an interesting fact in Vikram Vedha which went unnoticed or didnt make much of noise. It wasn’t openly professed in visuals but Vijay Sethupathi gives out indication in multiple scenes. One scene he openly confesses that he is a gay and women dont interest him much and he almost had a breakup with a guy. The whole movie turns up a new perspective with this interest of Vijay Sethupathi on Madhavan. Vikram Vedha borrows multiple scenes from smart scripts, but It is the best movie of the year and has the commanding performance to portray grey matter with dark humor. The wonderful interrogation scene where Vikram starts the questions and Vedha narrates the story. The scene draws a line across them sitting opposite in different colors, The Black shirt ( Vedha) and White shirt( Madhavan), At a point they almost meet to blur themselves in the gray scale of their past.

Meyathamaan is a laugh riot. If I had the power I would have infused more screens for the movie than Mersal. Some how in the GST controversy the movie wasn’t celebrated as it should be. But the movie is a genuine tribute oneside Romeos, which brought in multiple layers of romance in a hedonic manner after a very long time. The scene where Priya Bhavani Shankar visits Vaibhav’s home is a genuinely outstanding way of bringing the heart of the movie, Meyadhamaan had lots of energy and heart and some how it lands in the top in my list.

Theeran Athigaaram Ondru is a animal of its own among these films. Research, unconventional scenes, detailing and performance; this movie had multiple specifics which I couldn’t follow through out. The movie needed a romantic part to show the human side of Theeran which kept him lucid with his subordinates. The bus episode is one of the boldest and busiest stunt in recent times and It was a tidy choreography at a defining part of the screenplay.

Oru Kidaiyin Karunai Manu goes as the only hope which can make lots of sense for a story from Village. As I said I didn’t watch Aram or Aruvi, but for me Kidaiyin Karunai manu tops the list for its way the animal sacrifice has been handled. This would be one of the best competitor for Kannada movie “Thithi “

There is some thing about Thupparivalan, it has a finesse and  as usual Myskin wants us to understand the paintings of Johannas Vermeer ( The milkmaid) in the crucial killing of Mallika  , Ballerina by Degas or referencing Stanley Kurbrick. Thupparivalan deserves a sequel, though we cant stop referencing Sherlock. I loved Maanagaram, especially for its performance. Charlie and Munishkanth killed it with their  natural performances, Which definitely augmented the mood of the night.

So does Rangoon, One of the best performance and plot till date for Gautham. Rangoon has a  gritty attitude and it’s the best made racy thriller on smuggling this year, it has more delicately woven details about Burmese culture in Chennai. The Movie makes lots of sense if you love or know Chennai’s history with Burma and its traders.

If you haven’t watched Nisaptham or yet to catch up Kadugu, Kutram 23 – These are some of the well made low budget thrillers portraying the present issues. These movies might give you tremors, but they are well made from issues around our neighborhood. Nisaptham personally gave me sleepless nights and its a testimonial of Hasini's case.

If I have to rate Angamali Diaries or Thondimuthalum driksakshiyum I would give it to both , But there is this guy Fahad Fasil who comes once in a year with a movie like this and beats the shame for everyone who performs along. A little cameo in Take off was a powerful beat for the Iraqi Nurse thriller. Takeoff is an impossible movie for industry like Tamil, I would rate Take off much more than Airlift and its only because of Parvathy. Though both the movies are set in the same space but different times, Take off is a realistic portrayal of a Hostage situation in middle east.

I had to watch some of the left overs of 2016 , the one which impressed me were Karthik Naran’s Dhuruvangal Pathinaaru &  Mo.  I am not a big Bahubali fan, though I loved the grandeur and the hardwork behind the work of such a magnum Opus.

I havent watched Aram, Aruvi, Solo ( Malayalam) and Newton ( Hindi) yet.
