Chak De India (2007)

Rating : 8.9/10

Last time I whistled in the theatre was for the movie Shivaji and the one before it was for Chandra mukhi.I don’t remember any Indian movie had entertained me with such a spirit and feel of India in the recent past.Chak de India has created magic in its own terms and it rocks for 150 mins .I had lots of things to do on a Sunday afternoon ,but I took my friend also with to watch this movie paying 150 per ticket on black counter. But from the word go I never felt for what I paid. Join hands to celeberate the movie which tells about the sport which we dont play and still our national game. The game of real heroes of past. This movie is a real tribute to the national sport of India in its own way.

As I had written previously in the blog ( Can Chak de India recreate the magic Dt : 27/7/07) Chak de India is a genuine daring attempt to make a movie on Women’s Indian hockey team ."Hockey"-When was the word last pronounced? May be when India was with star players like Pillai ,Mukesh,Bhaskar but I feel the game has lost or cannibalized by Cricket. But though officially Hockey is the nation game of India and will remain for its glory of past. This movie has a taken the game to greater elevation which every Indian will love to see it on screen.

Now taking this movie in broad-spectrum there are many sports genre movies(Equally good and above ) across the cinema making word. I would say Chak de India to be watched with a observation of our National game .Because Chak de India had lot to do with emotions than any thing and it had succeeded .Watch it as a perspective of a Indian movie with out comparing you will be taken back by this magic.
Its not easier to make a high commemoration when its made on women’s hockey team ,same is for Kabirkhan who turns to Indian Hockey for training a trifling women’s team .The coach has a big task in the first half to build the team breaking their attitudes. Because he is coaching demoralized ,divided and let down team to a dream “World cup”. The strategies and tactics he puts before them has lots of notion and vigor which really makes you feel “Oh boy I am watching a beautifully made movie”.

The life time role for Sharukh has come after 16 years of his career, he had to shed many things in this movie 1.The image Rahul or Raj 2.He had to Kabir Khan and not Sharukh khan.He proves why he is the King Khan.He displays a stunning performance and is matured and displays the pain of his past memories with such an attitude which inspires to a greater zeal. I could only see the former Indian hockey captain Kabir Khan through out and not Sharukh Khan
The characters played in the hockey team equally carries the movie for its greater out come. You can not miss the charming Preethi( Sagarika Ghatge ) , Komal Chautala (Chitrashi Rawat) and the Punjabi ruf and tuf girl .What fails in many of the sports movies are that when the film stars play game will not be so real .But its not so here. Because 17 of the players who lift the stick play so genuine that you feel the spirit in each of the face with some sort of unity when the film progresses.

The main grounds for this movie is that the different players from different cultures are not elaborated and their stories are handled for moment of pit stop .This made us to focus on the base plot Hockey .Even after six hours I could not come out some scenes which had some thing to say .The scene when the men’s team raises the stick towards the women’s team is such a emotional gesture to the spirit of such a beautiful game .

Every team has its attitude problems its hats off to the director who had scripted a real beautiful scene at the climax resolving at right moment which was manipulative but was shot at a good sense. One scene I really wondered about the director Shimit Amin’s skill was the climax penalty shoot .When Captain Vidhya looks at Kabir khan for confidence before taking the fourth penalty shot. I really was thinking this is such a powerful scene which should have been at the final shot, I was asking myself if it was repetitive at the final shot also then the previous scene had no meaning, But the scene was repeated and Vidhya looks at Kabir but the way it was handled it took me yelling&whistling in the hall.
I thoroughly enjoyed ,whistled, yelled, and bellowed with such a spirit as watching my nation’s team playing world cup finals.Director Shimit amin&his team deserves a Standing ovation for making such a thrilling and Inspirational and above for at least some time in India people will spell the word “Hockey “.

If you have any movies in queue on Independence Day cancel it and Watch this Magic.
