Pallikoodam (2007)




The best part of any body’s life would be the school life.We never knew whats is the real life before us when we were in school.Innocent and fresh that it makes gives the real shape to your life.School becomes one’s part of personification and definition for his life to come.Pallikoodam is an attempt to bring the memories of school life and bind together with the present day changes.But Pallikoodam miserably fails to bring any of the emotions in the way its presented.

The movie is inspired by Thangar's novel Kalavadiya Pozhudhugal.It is about a school that is on the verge of shut down.Kumarasamy (Thangar Bachan) and Kokila(Sneha) plans to re unite the old students to support the school.Fate brings old friends Vetrivel(Naren) an IAS officer and Muthu (Seeman) a director to the school who are also the old students.How and when the oldies brings the joy in the school is Pallikoodam for you.

Director and Cinematographer ThangarBachan has not come out of the hangover of Azhagi.Director who was able to make a classic like Azhagi can make a real good movie.That was the only drive for me to watch this movie.But with Thangar bachan it always fails.He always wants his film to be so nostalgic with the old cultures that gives a monotonous feel.Azhagi was fresh and it told the happiness of school and pain of love ,But that should not be repeated always in every movie he makes.I do not deny that his movie speaks on the earthy cultures and traditions but it can't be told in the same space repeatedly.
The movie starts with a dreary mood and it crawls to reach a momentum.Sadly it never reaches the pace.The scenes become a reproduction in many of the parts .I anticipated some sort of good memories which could makes us feel the school life.Sadly in the 160 mins even a single second. I didn’t have the memories of my school life.Even great performances become so ordinary in a bad script.There is no great performances right from Acting to Music .Seeman scores better among the actors.I don’t know why the character of Jency (Shreya reddy ) is sketched in this movie and what is the value it brings is really a “?” .Pallikoodam had a good concept and good message to tell ,but it was never told in the way it was supposed to be told.
Thangar Bacchan should now stop with his Camera or he must not attempt to make commercial movies.If Pallikoodam could have made in the Parallel track movie it would have brought him some laurels.

There used to be days when I used to watch a movie twice, thrice or even five times in a theatre. Every one growing up watching Rajini, Kamal would definitely agree; Aboorva sagotharargal, Batsha, Kadhalukku mariyathai or many to name it.  It may be completely not possible today with the schedule and the amount of new content which streams before you. Some movies bring nostalgic moments when they are telecasted today. For example, I usually have it with Bombay, I remember watching it atleast 30-40 times in theatres in and around Tirunelveli. I have rehashed some of Tamil movies which is available in Youtube today which you should watch it again.  These were some of the movies which gave huge inspirations to film makers, script writers or be it any one loves cinema like me. Test it , first 15 minutes of any these movies and I bet you will sure complete the whole movie. With Silambattam Simbu needs a hit badly and he does what he knows the best.Dance and Action. Silambattam is a out and out Tamil Masala movie shot in a village atmosphere.Incidentally the Tamil cinema is able to break the Friday lucky day to release this movie on Thursday. Anantha Thandavam -The original Pirivom Sandhippom

Below is the write up about a movie which I expect so much for this year.The story has been my personal favorite and is based on one of the best Tamil novel which I have read so far.I happened to read the novel Pirivom Santhippom during my college days ,which made me to think aloud about love.Written by Sujatha the story was initially published in Anantha Vikatan in early 80’s.The story of Pirivom Santhippom is of two series first in Tirunelveli second part in America.After eight years I am able to recall each and every characters of the work.This has nothing to do with my memory but with the beauty of the book.The main characters are “Ragupathi and Madumitha “.After reading the book I felt there can not be a sweeter name than Madumitha .Even the name of the particular character while reading the novel will make you feel for Ragupathy.
