Ammuvagiya Naan (2007)

First things First .This is not a commercial movie or a movie with comedy sequence, action,or heroism. This movie is a complete realization of unprompted emotions and nothing more. I liked the movie and commercial movie lovers would really find it so boring for the pace it has carried.
Ammuvagiya Naan had impressed me for the uncompromising story line.I would not call it a brave attempt but it’s a impressive attempt for Padma Mahan.When the whole industry is sticking to Gangster formula it’s a real good attempt and the director makes it lovable also with his screen play.

Writer Gowri shankar (Parthiban) exploring for his next work on Commercial Sex workers where he meets Ammu (Bharathi ) who grows in Brothel .Gowri shankar decides to make his story on Ammu ,At a point he marries her.He finishes his book “Ammuvagiya Naan” and the book finds itself in the Final list in the Jury for Literary award. Now its up to Ammu to let or loose the award for Gowrishankar!.

Normally South Indian writers are meant to be so involved in the paradoxical living .Its had been evident from their works and their speech.Not to mention many of the bigger names of literary works are based on the experimental lives they lead.But some times experiments are too costly and weird.Some times when I read about them I feel why they run behind the life which are not meant for them.Why they search let the normal life free and go beyond the hypothetical life.When you search for it goes Null or void .Ammuvagiya Naan starts as a experimentation with Low level brothels but ends so emotionally.Dialogues were astounding in many scenes which were dark one liners and explicit phrases.Can’t help when making a film on brothel it had some scenes overboard,but it had been handled so well .It did not revolutionise any concept but it showed a smaller level of revival in movie making in Tamil.

Its so surprising the movie was made in schedule and released in schedule with no delays.Because such genre will have no takers in Tamil Industry for atleast a considerable period.The movie had not compromised even a single scene which makes it feel a true outcome of directors cut. Hats off to the producer!

Bharathi who resembles actress Meena had made a remarkable performance with Parthiban.Parthiban could have modulated his body language because its same we see from Azhagi,Thendral and Kudaikul Mazhai.It could have been better with some level of traits of a contradicting person .But the move fits the story perfect.Some of the intimate scenes makes it unsuitable to watch it with the family.But its clearly shown with the need and not been inserted .That makes the difference in this movie.Because the life of commercial sex workers is shown so dignified and director handles the sensitive scenes more with dialogues.

Surprising that apart from Ammu no body even smiles ,every body carries a grim appearance through out the movie.It is understandable why Ammu enters prostitution and the director did not take much of a time to explain .It could have been better if the movie had been made with some good music.Its a crime to expect a sensational Background score and songs from Sabash Murali.Its below average music in this beautifully directed movie .

This is not a usual genre movies which releases in Tamil,Some times we need a break from the usual masala movies of Gang wars and lousy comedy sequences.This has come in a moment of such quest.Ammuvagiya Naan can be watched for some fresh story and non deviating screen play ,good performances and emotional dialogues.
Over all again this is a good movie and not a commercial entertainer.
