Marudhamalai (2007)



Every time when I watch and enjoy a movie with usual formula of Romance ,Comedy,Macho Villain, ferocious Chases ,Challenges I always get reminded that I am a Tamil movie fan above any thing.Maruthamalai reminded me of the same.Its a same nonsense formula with Cop Hero challenging a Villain who rules a town unofficially not allowing the Government to conduct elections for Sixteen years.How illogical and attrocious!

Movie stars Arjun,Vadivel,Lal,Nasaer,Nila but its undoubtedly Vadivel who steals the show.Like in Winner ,Thalai Nagaram ,Vadivel had given a splendid performance which made me spell bound with his body language and expressions.I could clearly say one more hit because of Vadivel’s Comedy sequence.He is Ettu Egambaram A.K.A Encounter Egambaram (Like Vetayadu Velayadu DCP Raghavan) in Marudhamalai and the screen explodes from the moment he appears.From the fifth minute to nearly on hour it’s a complete comedy feast for viewers.Arjun and Vadivel combination works great after Giri.One thing which I would recommend for any body to watch this movie is for this pairs comedy sequence.
Arjun starts off the career as constable and he challenges the villain as usual for villain attacking Arjuns Father.As usual chases,Dead line dates for every thing including election, extortion etc.And as usual Hero keeps up the deadline of finishing the wicked empire. No surprises.
The first half of the movie travels so fast but the second half had lots of so called tactical works of Director and Arjun which has pulled off the pace considerably.Not to mention the same usual dialogues and stunts, Surprising formula which I watched in this movie was it had only one song in the first half but two in second half.

Arjun looks so young and smart ,he dances,romances,drives car jeep,bikes and what not he drives Heroine Nila also.Arjun movie thumb rule is Arjun must have two heroines ,Marudhamalai is no exception in that. Arjun carries the stunt with sheer passion for his martial arts- unsurpassed action king of Tamil cinema .Nothing to mention on Music and Heroine,they don’t carry any value which I think they are aware to the fullest.

Lal played as Masi (Villain) is a good actor trapped in the Tamil cinema formula.Film has no logic its completely manipulative ,Villain’s 15 days arrest extends till the end of the movie ,he speaks through mobile from the Jail and operates from there.He hits the Chief election commissioner and attempts to murder him.How funny and ridiculous.I would say,Marudhamalai has passed in commercially logically it’s a bad film.If you happen to watch the movie some where,Watch it till the interval for Vadivel-Arjun comedies which is once again a big hit , and it will also make this movie a average hit w .One more reason for this movie will it pass is because there is no big releases due till Diwali.

There used to be days when I used to watch a movie twice, thrice or even five times in a theatre. Every one growing up watching Rajini, Kamal would definitely agree; Aboorva sagotharargal, Batsha, Kadhalukku mariyathai or many to name it.  It may be completely not possible today with the schedule and the amount of new content which streams before you. Some movies bring nostalgic moments when they are telecasted today. For example, I usually have it with Bombay, I remember watching it atleast 30-40 times in theatres in and around Tirunelveli. I have rehashed some of Tamil movies which is available in Youtube today which you should watch it again.  These were some of the movies which gave huge inspirations to film makers, script writers or be it any one loves cinema like me. Test it , first 15 minutes of any these movies and I bet you will sure complete the whole movie. With Silambattam Simbu needs a hit badly and he does what he knows the best.Dance and Action. Silambattam is a out and out Tamil Masala movie shot in a village atmosphere.Incidentally the Tamil cinema is able to break the Friday lucky day to release this movie on Thursday. Silambattam is the same old Family revenge story. Vichu ( Simbu ) is an innocent temple priest who is brought up by his grandfather ( Nedumudi Venu ) as a coward. in a village.His grandfather hides him from knowing the past.He comes to know about his father Tamilarasan who was Killed twenty years ago in a family riot by a young boy Thuraisingh . Anantha Thandavam -The original Pirivom Sandhippom

Below is the write up about a movie which I expect so much for this year.The story has been my personal favorite and is based on one of the best Tamil novel which I have read so far.I happened to read the novel Pirivom Santhippom during my college days ,which made me to think aloud about love.Written by Sujatha the story was initially published in Anantha Vikatan in early 80’s.The story of Pirivom Santhippom is of two series first in Tirunelveli second part in America.After eight years I am able to recall each and every characters of the work.This has nothing to do with my memory but with the beauty of the book.The main characters are “Ragupathi and Madumitha “.After reading the book I felt there can not be a sweeter name than Madumitha .Even the name of the particular character while reading the novel will make you feel for Ragupathy.
