Satham Podathey (2007)

There is one shot when the dejected Padmapriya drinks cold water from the refridgerator.After drinking the water she spreads the chillness of the bottle on her neck and body.Her husband would be sleeping in the bed and she would show the frustration in looking at the sleeping husband for not having sex since marriage. The shot shows on the outset to quench the water thirst for Padmapriya.But director intends in a different way.Padma priya not able to resist her burning desire towards her maiden experiences,spreads the chilled water bottle to quench the heat of her desires.I don’t know how much noticed it.But if you noticed it you will know what is this brand called Vasanth.Welcome to Vasanth Movie.I would say he is one of the very few directors in tamil cinema who is eligible to mention as their movie like “A Vasanth film”
Undoubtedly Satham podathey is his one the identical movie of Vasanth.

Banu ( Padma priya ) finds a new life with (Ravi Candran)Prithviraj after getting divorce from impotent and drunkard Ranganathan (Nithin Sathya ).New happiness again is disturbed by Ranganathan .How Ravi saves Banu from ranganathan is told as a Psycho path kidnapping story.

I don’t know why they choose Nithin sathya for this role, his performance looks great but it didn’t impress. Because this character should be burning and explosive .And the tireless aggression misses from Nithin Sathya.Prithivi raj looks didn’t have much to impress.Yet another Malayalam mixed Tamil comedy and emotions from him.Vasanth should have locked the character with Padma priya.when he wrote the script. The frustration and dejection spreads across her body language in the character.

If I was to rate No :1 director in filming the songs I would undoubtedly give it to Vasanth.Vasanth’s camera for songs have always been asymmetric from the usual ways .Right from Keladi Kanmani,Asai,Nerukku nerr,Poovellam Kettupaar,Rhythm all the movie songs have been a treat to watch with regard to picturisation.Satham Podathey joins the list .All the characters in Vasanth’s movie will look charming and fresh invariably right from the hero to villain. Its the level of expertise he puts with the cinematographer to get it look great.Satham Podathey ‘s characters looks fresh even though it’s a pain struck movie.

With all the effects in direction and screenplay Vasanth always fails to attract commercially because he tries to involve too many thing in a single shot and he misses the main flow.For example in Satham Podathey the scenes with SBI Blue chip Mutual Fund,Family tree,Pirivom Sandipom were all inserted ,it was impressive but he failed to convey why Prithiviraj doubts Nithin sathya could have kidnapped Padma priya who had been declared dead and been postmortem had been conducted.Though it’s the truth there is no convincing reason for his intuition.Yuvan Shankar raja’s songs are heart felt and peppy.Pesugiran song rings after the movie also.
I am sure the movie will not big commercially but after one or two years viewers will love this movie after watching it in TV/DVD ,like his earlier movies.Ask any body they will love rhythm and aye nee rumba alaga erukka ,but ask them whether they watched in theatre the answer would be “No”,because Vasanth’s movie gives a TV Play and it looks great in TV .
