The Woman Next door(1981)

I don’t know how some movies make it so big with normal screenplays and performances. The woman next door could have been with different story for the title. But it was a usual love story with desires of past love.but one thing for sure the movie went off in a good mood and pace which should be mentioned.

Bernard (Gérard Depardieu) lives with his wife Arlette (Michèle Baumgartner)and son Thomas in a interior village of France ,Phillippe and his wife Mathilde Bauchard comes as a neighbors ,who was his past girl friend. it was evident to know from the scene they meet .What makes this film is one scene when they commit them selves again to regain their lost love. But that makes them wild for what they do in their normal life, since they decide to hide their relation. One point of time Mathilde realizes her guilt and moves away from him ,when Bernard completely goes wild and later realizes. On the end it moves to a thrilling end by having sense for their guilt and love.

I have not seen François Truffaut movies till now, my friend mentioned him as a good director. I didn’t have any bias to see it as a great movie, to be very honest I was inspired by the title and the title completely misled me for the story I was expecting. The emotions which each of the distressed personalities discharge is shown with different perspectives from Madame Jouve to Bernard .But I was not disturbed or moved by even a single emotion. The movie was up to a level of passion and what was so intimidating was the amorous relation was never attracting .In many movies these kind of relation make a crux to exert a pull on .The best about the movie was the way each shot was made it was not the usual angles of love making and even conversation. That was marked from the beginning of the movie.I might be different in the opinion about the movie but I couldn’t take it as a great movie as my DVD shop fellow recommended.

Two former lovers accidentally brought together still with the remains of the frustration what would be the reaction? It is anticipatable. what can not be anticipated in the movie is the end.To show guilt and shame the director takes time to till the end this can not be like what you expect ! That was truly awesome. Frenzied and disturbed Bernard makes the exact depiction of an ardent family man who is shown as a person who can not be blamed for the reaction.
How to take up the following ? Mathilde calls him and incites him ,then he comes back she speaks about the family ! Then after some disturbing events she wants him again !I was not able to understand the way Truffaut was looking at the direction. It was not convincing for me. This is a movie where I did not react for any emotional scene but I was not bored for even a single moment .The screen play had lucidity to make to show evident emotions of love from all the angles .
