Kaloori(2007)

Third film from the director who was celebrated two years ago for his meticulous work “Kadhal”.Expectations were high from my side like others for the plot he had chose this time days. The biggest difference in this movie is that you will not be able to recognise even a single actor ,since they are fresh to acting.Tamanna is relatively a known actor among the lot.Balaji Sakthivel and Shankar had to be appreciated for it and that needs guts to make a movie with all new actors.

Kalloori is a story of ten students of Government Art college near Madurai and their lives being friends for years and how a inclusion of a new friend gives commotion in their relations .Muthu (Akil ) and Kayal (Hemalatha) are the two characters which needs a special mention for its emotionally erect portrayal.Shobana (Tamana) who is depressed due to her mothers loss is brought to the gang by Kayal and the Shobana’s new entry brings up many chaos especially between Kayal and Akil .Shobana and Muthu follow their instinct of attraction towards each other and reciprocate well .Both feel hesitant to express their love due to the value the group gives to friendship. The love and life changes for the duo and the group after a Educational tour to Andhra.Kalloori ends up in a different depressed mood .

The movie pays tribute to the fatal incident which took place in Dharmapuri 14 years ago with a no intention to slam any body but to honor the lives which were terminated by the political mobs.Balaji Shakthivel is a good story teller and his confidence to bring together a fresh faces to celluloid is astounding .Amazingly he speaks only the close to heart happening of the college in a natural manner with out inserting any filmy hypocrites.Balaji shakthivel once more tries to explore Madurai this time with lesser sassy romance .He handles through modifying occurrences and transforms the attraction to Love. Its impressive but very low in intensity.

The performances from each and every character are straight from heart and less of celluloid ,but that also gives us the lack of pace which lets down the movie in a huge way. The plot struggles in hugely to come out of a bond which the director should have taken care with regard to pace and consistency. The movie losses its momentum in fact the movie begins with out a proper knock for the first fifteen minutes. It gains the pace after Tamanna’s entry and then fades in the middle. All the characters looks very normal and realistic and the activities just reminds of the college life which passed years ago .Times the activities might look childish and amateur but Balaji shakthivel had taken immense work to look perfect on the screen.Same way he has taken efforts to shape down the character of Shobana which is main character of the movie.Tamanna fresh and charming fits the like a glove for the character. It looks good to see Tamanna in movie than in Advertisements.

The director sticks to Joshua Sridhar for Music after Kadhal and he had not disappointed much. But still apart from the song Seriya Thavara others need a repeated listening. But far all goods the movie’s story line is very weak and there is not thrust in the screenplay to make the audience to glued apart from the comedy and fresh looks. The end is truly shocking when the whole relations become subdued in consensus and reciprocate Muthu & Shobana’s romance.Kallori is again a good movie from Balaji Shakthivel but it lacks the momentum to make a big impression like Kadhal.

Rating :7.8/10
