Pirivom Santhipom (2008)

Truly speaking I chose this movie for the title ,I had no oppurtunity for watching it in my native place as my schedules were very tight .Pirivom Sandiphom is the title inspired from Writer Sujatha’s famous Love story .But this Pirivom sandiphom is different in story and the plot.Karu Palaniappan impressed every body with Parthiban Kanavu and his second film Sathurangam never released and third film Sivapathigaram was a poor show from him. This time he comes up very in a special way to show “See I ve got some thing different “.

Pirivom Sandippom starring Cheran as Natesan and Sneha as Visalatchi as lead roles .I am sure I can not name the other starcasts in brief also ,as this movie casts some thing like a Sooraj Barjatiya movie .It has a very big crowd but the point here is ,it deals with loneliness of a young woman missing her nativity and relations . The only daughter of her parentsVisalatchi(Sneha) marries into a joint family of Natesan(Cheran ). When she moves out along with her husband from the family full of relatives because of her husbands transfer of job into hill station with nobody to speak to, the loneliness gets her.She falls with insomnia and mentally sick .Power of family brings joy to Visalatchi.

Director has shown a versatile style for Tamil cinema where he speaks with patience and clarity about the need for family values and togetherness. One main thing about this movie is that it shows a feel good attitude through out and it never allows to make a commercial outlook.Karupalaniappan should be appreciated for the pains he has taken to show the tradition of Karaikudi chettiar family from the marriage to the behaviour of the particular movie. To my knowledge his precision in that is great even in very normal scene.Usually the Karaikudi marriage looks larger than life from Gold to Dressmaterial and the director has shown a genuine attempt to capture through Sneha and Cheran marriage.

Sneha is the boon for this movie and she carries this movie alone in her loneliness. She is the ideal pick for the character where I doubt any body in this entire Tamil cinema industry would have done as beautiful as she has done here. Its a fantastic performance where she engulfs all her emotions through out the movie.Cheran gives a respectful performance and his emotions becomes understandable. The back ground score looks so different for me ,Vidyasagar has given a different feel for the loneliness and it captures us so easily through his music.

One important thing about the movies is the second half which lacks pace ,Its terribly slow which I feel would let down the movie commercially. I feel many would loose the patience in the very vital scenes which were very slow and also for the so elaborate second half the climax becomes short which is enjoyable. This presentation shows the difference the director is trying to make in his style.I am totally convinced with the need for such title, the main plot and the core theme. It could not have been better show for all this. The film deducts all the usual intimate scenes and it has never tried to capitalize on that .

Pirivom Santhippom is a clear and feel good movie for Tamil viewers but the pace could have been better if some scenes were edited.
