Jodha Akbar (2008)

The re are not many actors in the Indian cinema who can take a movie with international performance. Off late I have reduced to the great extend on my fantasy towards the Hollywood cinema ,as it also sticks to some kind of formulative stuff.Hritik Roashan is unargubly an actor of international standards on his looks and performance. His outlook is never argued but did he get his real ground to perform ? Then to be very frank it was no.Lakshya gave him a mark but he never capitalised from that performance. His movies are big hit ,he is a super star but he is a great actor and ofcourse a fantastic showman in any form.

Jodha Akbar is a long awaited movie from Ashutosh Gowarikar after nearly four years after his Swadesh. It about the romance between Mughul Emperor Jaluludeen Akbar(Hrithik Roshan) and Rajput princess Jodha(Aishwarya Rai).It so happens in the 16th century after Humayun ,Akbar with his macho Bairam Khan goes on a spree of war to capture the whole India. Some of the Rajput Kingdoms resists for it and Kingdom of Ameer is a independent Rajput sovereign where Jodha lives. In a move to save his men losing life against the war with Mughuls the King Bharmalaccepts to go under the Mughul Empire. He also requests Jalaludeen Akbar to marry his daughter Jodha.Jodha tumbles with his fathers move and after some conditions to preserve his traditions ties the knot with the king.Things change behind the emperor because of this change which many of his men would spoil the Mughul tradition.Sharaffudeen (Nikitin Dheer),husband of Banu who is the Sister of Jalaludeen and Maham Anga (Ila Arun) whom the emperor respects as a mother work against the emperor and Jodha respectively.Mean while the emperor and Jodha falls in love after much dramatic events of suspicion and misunderstanding .The Shenshah Jalaludeen becomes Jalaludeen Akbar and Jodha becomes Mallika Hindusthan Jodha Bhai when people and sovereigns accept the emperor .

I entered the cinema hall in the afternoon and came out in the night ,it was 210 minutes of a long epic creation which has to be edited for sure .I am still thinking why Indian directors don't give a crisp history of any thing.Speak speak speak till every thing becomes drowsy. I am not sure about the credibility of the research made for the movie because of many melodramatic scenes which were shown for the romance .It can be accepted as it is necessary to compensate for the length of the movie.Ashtosh Gowarikar has taken this movie with a sheer determination to give a international movie in terms of research and the costumes.,for which he has compromised on his style.I was not visible to see his style of his previous movies in any of the place. To be very frank Director Ashutosh Gowarikar was not visible in any of the scenes. But this style is welcome move for Indian cinema as its candid outstanding if you take the whole aspect.

They say Akbar was with his famous characters Birbal and Tansen ,I don't know was I amateurish in searching that or what? But to say you sitting in the hall I could feel the respect and the power of Emperor Akbar through Hritik Roshan's eye.The man has carried the whole creation in his mighty shoulders beating around every body.Naturally His looks in many angles looks like European ,but surprisingly here his appearance was so equivalent to a Mongolian origin.Hritik's delivery of the dialogues is amazing ,particularly when he looks so fluent with the urdu words.Everybody in the movie have struggled in the pronunciation but Hirtik makes it so simple. i can see the command he is about to get in Indian cinema through this character in the future. But its up to creators to utilise this fantastic actor.

Who else can make it for the character of Jodha ,I don't know directors around here have no choice apart from Aishwarya Rai .Its true I can not imagine any body apart from her. Her fluent acting and affluent looks makes her undisputed and unarguable for this role.If one thing was so impressive apart from Hrithik performance is Aishwarya rai and Hrithik’s onscreen presence as duo. The song Khaweja Mere has shown Rahman is becoming a master and lover of Modern Sufi Music. The picturisation gave me a feeling of watching a live Sufi Music and the ecstasy in praising the god through the music is fluent for ARR and I enjoyed it thoroughly. But Where is Mr.Rahman in the whole movie leaving the songs? It was a mean performance for even Ashutosh Gowarikar from ARR except some scenes.Costumes in this movie is one of the finest collection which justifies for time and script.Jewels by Tanishq can not be exhibited and advertised so fine than this.

The movies length has made me to mislay the note worthiness in the earlier scenes and as it goes on the entry of characters becomes a virus.I am not able to see the justification of many scenes from the director ,for instance the climax scene fight resembling Troy.
All being said undoubtedly Jodha Akbar is a epic creation to mark in the history of Indian cinema which had a class like Mughul E Azam and a style of its own.Its really difficult to come out of the mental image of Akbar with Pritiviraj but Hiritik has done it and it’s a great movie for him and a good battle to succeed after ordinary movies like Dhoom.I doubt many of the important values of Akbar like Din-E-Ilahi,preserving Hindu temples and Ghazi were omitted which should have been included. But for it’s a must watch for all History lovers.
