Santhosh Subramaniam (2008)

Sitting in my native place I happened watch one of the beautifully remade movie in Tamil"Santhosh Subramaniam" .Bommarilu a celebrated movie in Telugu is remade without any changes in Tamil with such a perfection.People say it is very easy to remake a movie but I guess the challenge of the Director lies with satisfying the audience who had already watched the original version.Raja has mastered the art of remaking and he has done it again. This is one of the best made movie along with M.Kumaran S/o Mahalaxmi from him.

Every body knows the plot of Santhosh Subramaniam as the Telugu version is one of the widely watched movie by cross border audiences.Santhosh (Jeyam Ravi ) is one of the son of Subramaniam(Prakash Raj) who decides for Santhosh.Santhosh is frustrated with his dad for the freedom he is missing. He meets Hasini (Jenilia ) after he got engaged with one of his dad’s friend daughter.Santhosh falls in love with her and so is Hasini. When Subramaniam comes to know about this he erupts in anger .Hasini stays with Subramaniam’s family for a week as per Santhosh’s request to his dad.The rest is humour, sentiment and happiness.

Director Raja did not want to take any risks in remaking, for instance he has maintained the same costumes of Jenilia from the original version and the beautiful name Hasini.Surely Jenilia is the clear winner .If the Telugu version was known for her innocence and honesty ,Tamil is not an exception.Watching the Telugu version for the first time itself Jenilia’s character impressed me.But In Tamil it irritated me in the beginning as I was watching the same character. But slowly the innocence was repeatedly flowing through, which made me enjoy each and every move of the character Hasini. The movie is going to Hindi and Guess who is playing the character of Hasini!!!

If Sidharth in Telugu it cant be Jeyam Ravi in plain terms. But Jeyam Ravi has done it with out giving too much.He has been given with way to perform which he exceeds in each act .Prakash Raj as Subramaniam.Who can do it better ? I guess sticking to this actor we are missing the performances of other actors .If not please correct me !!! There are many characters in the movie which had taken some changes .From Santhanam.Geetha,Premji,Vijayakumar.But why Sadagopan Ramesh??? But surprisingly he looks like Jeyam Ravi’s brother !!!

Every act ,dialogues and costumes and locations are similar to Original version which becomes both positive and negative for the movie. But one thing is that this movie should be watched without any preconceived notion (Which I failed to .”I accept”).In such case this can be enjoyed more for many scenes which we missed out in Telugu. The movie is one of the beautifully casted movie like M.Kumaran .The Tug of War of Son and Dad with family sentiments are always a big hit in Tamil.Santhosh Subramaniam will emerge the winner among the releases .

Rating :7.9/10

Machi....i dont go with this..... I feel all these DVD directors who copy as you say every bit every angle including the undergarments people wear have to be beaten to a pulp... I really dont see any thing great about it...once in a while its okay..but if someone is doing that as a profession i guess its stupid...anyway i have seen the orginal and really liked it..

I agree SK but u know I have seen some of the remake movies have spoiled the fantasy of watching even the original version. For example Serendipity and Sholay. The original versions are gem and this movie has not spoiled it and let me tell u its not easy to even remaking as it is.The depth realised by the original director need not be felt by the second director.U can not name the remade movies as great movies but u can always give a word on the quality of remaking..I think I have done that.

I saw the movie recently....
I saw it shortly in few days after reading reviews from the web including yours...
All reviews had the same story," a nice family entertainer"
But, don't you yhink the movie drags at a very slow pace at the first half...with lots of conversation scenes like ravi to friends, hasini to shayagi shinde etc...a typical telugu typeee...
anyway, second half is fast....
just shared my opinion karthik

@ Ramanan

I do accept ,it was slow in some scenes and its truly with Telugu touch. But bringing it to tamil style would have spoiled to movie.I think sticking on the original script clicked for this movie.I accept ur view. Some how the comedy scenes didnt work it ina big way ..

Thanks for visiting..Keep commenting.
