Kuruvi (2008)

So the biggest movie for Summer next to Dasavatharam has arrived .I managed to get the ticket with my friends and was prompt.Dharani,Vijay ,Vidhyasagar so what can you expect.Its a typical masala movie of Vijay and certainly not of Dharani.The man who gave the unforgettable movie of Vijay's career is not at his best .He is bit confused whether to give a completely new movie or a replica of Gilli.

Story line is bit 25-30 years old like Sivanthamann ,Vel (Vijay)a carefree guy flies as a Kurivi(Code name for people who carries goods India to abroad ) to Malaysia to meet the person who owes money to his dad Singamuthu(Mani vannan) .The person is Gotcha who is a mafia in Malaysia.Gotcha rejects Vel’s plea for the money ,so obviously Vel has to stand against him.Devi (Trisha ) falls in love with Vel.Vel takes a Diamond from Gotcha and returns back to India.Gotcha follows him and his sister who came in search of Vel.Vel finds from Gotcha that Singamuthu his father is a slave in Gotcha’s quarry ,Gotcha invites Vel to meet him there to see his power.Vel races to Cudappah which is ruled by Konda Reddy ( Ashish Vidyarthi ) where Vijay fights ,runs ,saves,punishes,Kills ,loves what all and ends the movie.

Dharani till Kuruvi was a cool customer and Kurivi has become his high tensed movie because of the expectation created.Produced by Udayanidhi Stalin this movie wanted to repeat the magic of Gilli and it takes a confused path and usual turns.I was expecting his clear and intelligent racy screenplay which would keep the viewers at the seat.I could not experience the usual Dharani screenplay in Kurivi.The first half in Malaysia was a total disappointment .Some of the stunts were like a baffling act and cartoon stuff.

Vijay has done nothing extraordinary it’s the same Vijay whom we have seen from Thirumalai .Trisha –Not a child like character again.Vivek appears till the first half and takes a relief from the movie after interval. Suman after Shivaji makes a impressive presence in the first half but bedridden in the second half.The biggest onscreen disappointment was Songs.It was O.k while heard in track but the picturisation made it feel so bad.
Songs and BGM were not sounding as it was for the hit pair of Dharani and Vidyasagar.

The best thing about the movie is the first thirty minutes after the interval in the Quarry which boosted the movie ,Ashish Vidyarthi was irritating till the end.Cudappah mines were shot in a splendid manner.Some how the scenes in the mines resembled Jai Hind and the initial scenes with Trisha and Vijay was absolute pick from Mask of Zorro .On the whole This is not Dharani Movie .This is an average movie for the commercially successful director.
