The French Connection (1971)
Nowadays I spend the weekends by attending marriages, and I hardly find some time for myself which was abundant for me previously.I am stealing time here and there to make it a life which gave me plenty of happiness. This weekend I decided to watch atleast three movies ended up as of now with two .French connection is one of the movie which was lying for months in my shelf unwatched.
Classic thrillers never fades away and this one of the good racy movies which stands as an interesting movie even after nearly forty years.Jimmy Doyle (Gene Hackman) and Buddy Raso (Ray Sheinder ) runs behind a group of Narcotics gang. They are made to run with the transaction which happens between two gangs.Jimmy has the faith he is chasing the right rat and when they reach them it ends in a vague manner for him as one of the rat jumps from him.
Gene Hackman in his mid thirties with his energy and serious locks puts forth a gusty performance. He creates the mood for the movie as I could see it could have been a another cop story with out any special thing with out him.The movie itself creates a perfect atmosphere for a racy thriller with most of the scenes shot in the streets of Newyork. Some scenes which are shown are the cities lost pictures which we generation would not be able to see.The movie won Gene Hackman academy award along with five awards which it swept.
One thing special about this movie is it never tried to create an setup for pace as it was naturally built up.It didn’t need the detectives to be a Supercops doing amazing stunts and its showed realistic characters with some level of frustration and aggression both mixed. There were only appearances of many characters except Gene Hackman and Ray Sheider.Others were shown through eyes and their characters could not be read which clearly shows the movies isn’t generic and its from the Cops angle.
The movie is not a complicated tale but the mechanics of operation makes it interesting to watch from the beginning. You know some thing is happening and its some thing about to bust but the vague feeling of chasing captures scene by scene to everyone when we sit along the movie. It failed to show the movie from a different angle other than the cops and its missing in a greater way.The music of the movie plays stays in your mind and you can not forget so easily. This was one of the pioneers of newage cinema in Hollywood.
