Subramaniapuram (2008)

Bala and Ameer are different league of directors who have their versatility in their film making. They have redefined the movie making in their own ways.Bala is a emotional customer where Ameer is a rooted contender .What if a Director comes out from the school of Bala and Ameer. Its M.Sasikumar who has made his debut as a director in Subramaniyapuram

Subramaniyapuram movie happens in 80’s in a place near Madurai .The story is about two friends Azhagar(Jay) and Paraman (M.Sasikumar )who are careless unemployed youth who roam around in the city.Azhagar and Thulasi(Swathy ) daughter of former Councillor love each other .The duo friends murder a politician for the sake of words of hope from Councillor brother Samudrakani. The duo get embroiled in the case and the finds they have been preyed by the Counciler. The duo gets in to murder spree when they come out of the Jail and relentlessly involve in murders which were not related to them. The duo goes for revenge of Councillor brother and in the end the movie ends with present day with a strong note .

Two things many would say is 1.The movie has slight resemblance of Palaivana Rojakkal and Paruthiveeran 2.The movie has lots of violence.I would strongly object both of it.Because even I felt about it but when I had a thought about it ,it has come so naturally on the resemblance and the costumes makes the viewers compare with those movie. The movie has a style and a intensity which was well maintained till the end.The characters never felt the need to go on a pace which was understandable for the sake of difference the director was making.

Jay as Azhagar the guy has come up so well after Chennai 600028 and he has given his dedication to a greater extend for his director. It was good to see a character playing so naturally and close to reality stuff. The romantic scenes with Thulasi is bit old but was handled in a poetic and humorous manner which brings the involvement in the first half.Ganja Karuppu as Kasi playing their friend has penned one of the best role till date. The hidden agenda of him is not very well explained though in the movie.

Now to the director and the character Paraman played by Director Sasikumar itself. The character Paraman synchornises with many characters of Tamil Cinema,a typical friend shares every thing with his friend and advices against woman and getting betrayed. But Sasikumar along with Jay have excelled in their performance.Director Sasikumar has hangover of his two bosses and it is so evident in many scenes.Plot is weak and some scenes needed strong justification which was left off like the Kanja Karuppu character .There might be some questions “why ? “ which could have been avoided .There seems to be a dilemma for the director to prioritize romance or friendship but its not so evident which saves the whole movie. But for the above it’s a impressive debut and its has all ingredients of a good movie which is a welcome news for the viewers.

Its worth a long review and some times movies with out big star cast excel .This has occurred many times.Skip all the negative views on this movie and enjoy it .Its a worth watch and its not a yet another Madurai story.

Beautifully done by Sasikumar. He has done a great deal of justice for his illustrious background (associations with Bala, Ameer). Jai has come up as a good actor...
