Dham Dhoom (2008)

What if Shivaji was not there in Thevar Mahan ,What if Christopher Nolan was not there in Dark Knight we cant imagine in those lines .Yes Dham Dhoom misses Jeeva(n).Director Jeeva who passed away before completing this movie would have been happy if this movie came in the way he had in his mind.I skipped Rock On to watch Dham Dhoom just for this Man Jeeva.I thought this movie would be a tribute to the legendary camera man.

Dham Dhoom starts with a pace when Indian Doctor Gautham who has his marriage with Shenba (Gangana Renaut) in a week flies to Russia to attend a conference. He gets embroiled in a murder of Anna a model who peddles drug to Local Mafia.Gautham runs from the police and he is helped by Aarthi an Indian lawyer in Moscow.Marriage and Murder tangle Gautham runs for both.

Jeeva would have wanted to make a racy thriller and what has happened which I can see is that the scenes which he has shot in elaborate needs a precise editing. The team which handled the movie after Jeeva had no idea of what was in Jeeva’s mind. The racy thrill and chases were badly edited and ofcourse the BGM for any movie would be in the final works and it had missed the combo of Harris and Jeeva.

Jayam Ravi is good and he has matured as a marvellous artist .He acrobatic ,performing and handsome .Gangana is a welcome face for Tamil and she is a mystic beauty and looks amazingly fresh before Jeeva’s camera.Lakshmi Rai and Jeyaram can make you surprise with their roles. The romance between Jayam Ravi and Gangana is not a new tale we have seen this for years in Tamil cinema but still it was interesting .The movie should have been with this romance for the first half rather trying out flashbacks in Jeyam Ravi’s memories. The movie itself lacks movement where it gets slogs and some of the logical parts a hugely missing with the movie. It would have been a great show if the investigation was carried out in a intelligent way rather doing it in a Vijayakanth style of hitting the mobs and getting the information.

I am really shocked to hear Harris Jeyaraj Back ground music with a very very bad sense of synchronising with the scenes. The songs are enthralling set of numbers which had topped the charts long back but the BGM ,I am really really sorry Harris Jayaraj. The camera of the legend is a treat to watch Moscow before your eyes. His sense of visuals is fresh and sparkling in the streets of Russia. One set of factor which excels in this movie is the Camera and Jayam Ravi.Songs need not be mentioned are beautifully shot but the placing of the songs creates the problem in the movie’s pace.

What could have ended to be a very scintillating movie have ended in a fuzzy note with the final touches for the movie and the editing performed so badly .I can only say it’s not a bad movie that’s it.If you are very keen to watch it you can just to pay the tribute in watching last piece of work of the Late camera man Jeeva.
