The Eastern Promises (2007)

I didn’t want to miss this movie.I had no clue of the story line as I maintained my nerves not to read the story line .The movie in released in Chennai ,a year after it released in rest of the world.I wasn’t able to get the DVD version of it ,So I had this movie in the Queue for a quiet some time.Now Sunday evening was the perfect time for me to go for this movie at Satyam Cinemas.Why am I nowadays going repeatedly to Satyam?

Its all shown to us when a fourteen year girl dies in the arms of Anna (Noami Watts ) giving birth to a baby.The girl’s diary written in Russian becomes a pathfinder for Anna where she discovers a Card of a restaurant owned by a Siberian Semyon (Armin Mueller-Stahl), a boss in the Russian Mafia or vory v zakone.Anna tracks down to Semyon to seek the whereabouts of the girls family to save the child.Krill who is Semyon’s son who is involved in making the girls to whore and Kirill's driver Nikolai Luzhin (Viggo Mortensen) get involved with Semyon to get the diary back from Anna. Anna being helpless and Nikolai who is the only human in the gang discover routes of the murder from the diary .

The movie is incidentally being compared to Godfather .The Corleone family had the stature which lacked here.May be it was not evidently shown as it was exhibited by Cuppalo.DavidCornenberg’s movie introspects into many aspects from a Midwife perspective ,from a hitman’s perspective .and from a Deductive perspective.It had the seamlessly flowing screenplay which helped to maintain the intensity till the very end we discover the truth .The Vory V Zakone family was shown as a violent and brutal family with their intentions and activities unexplained.

The movie’s performance belong to Viggo Mortensen as a Russian Mobster.I was an unlucky person for missing the historic fight scene of his at the bathroom.Probably the censor board of India should grow up for a pure cinema like this.His performance of this movie made me forget his pronunciation and his voice of his earlier movie.He had the defined and well researched character internally and externally who cleans up the deadbodies ,helps Anna ,accompanies Krill in his activities.

I love Noami Watts ,I enjoy all her movies and it’s a no exception movie.She is brilliant and as Anna she is helpless to save the child from getting out of her.The movie discovers the network of Russian Mafia and it ends in a surprising note.

I would accuse Satyam for taking away the climax scenes from the movie ending in a very blunt manner,I had to go for searching the climax in the web.If you are really tired of watching sick movies like Kuselan,Mummy go for this movie at Satyam.I hope this movie will be shown till this Friday.
