Kuselan (2008)

Ok .Where to start ? Let me start from me !I am a big time fan of Super star .And I am a fan who still whistles in even a multiplex when Rajini ad comes on screen ,A fan who is contended with his appearance for a single scene. Now as a review if you take this movie ,it needs a big thumbs down for P.Vasu.

The epic stories from Mahabaratha being made in to movies is not new to Indian Cinema. There was Thalapathy based on Karna and Duryodana. Now its Kuselan. From the epic Kuselan is the friend of Lord Krishna .Kuselan struggles in poverty and his wife and children asks him to meet Krishna.Krishna meets Kuselan is a history which is told for friendship. Here Balu (Pasupathy) is Kuselan who is a poor barber. Ashokkumar (Rajinikanth )who is a Mega actor is Balu's childhood friend.Ashokkumar comes to Balu’s village for a shooting .The news about their friendship spreads across the village .Devi(Meena ) his wife and his children urge him to meet Ashokkumar.Balu gets embroiled in his incapability to meet Ashokkumar. How this present day Kuselan meets Krishna is the rest of the movie.

I can understand the audience can not accept any body in this role other than Rajini kanth, where he has played himself. Its a rare onscreen Rajinikanth with out uttering punch dialogues and fighting with bad guys.He is vibrant ,energetic and fresh. But if you ask me all of his guest role movies had some thing to say,be it Valli,Anbulla Rajinikanth but here, the director has done zero home work to make this man show any of his magic.Rajini remains, sits, reads, laughs till the last fifteen minutes.Last fifteen minutes has put off all these and I have seen him shedding tears in a frame after many years. He takes this movie as medium to explain his state of being and his actions.

The movie is made for Pasupathy and he has shown a great level of self control for not exhibiting his Veyyil Murugesan character. He should be given a pat for his level of observation with in himself as his costumes and attitude of both the characters are same.First forty minutes of the movie is supposed to be with out RajiniKanth and Vasu has let it loose and it had done the damage for the whole movie.Vadivelu irritates to a major extend. And in addition there are Livingston,Santhanabarathy and M.S Bhaskar to irritate. The lighter side of the movie should have been impressive and it failed to bring out the brilliance which was much needed from Vasu. The screenplay is let off in air with the over confidence of Rajini’s presence.

Nayanthara is over confident on her features and the director too. There is not even a single complete dialogue for her in the movie but her name appears third in the title card.Meena is impressive after a very long time .Arvind Krishna is a brilliant camera man and he has captured the beauty of the village with a immaculate precision and mood.

The last fifteen minutes takes away the errors of the director to some extend. It should be understood probably Rajini accepted the movie for this crux. The friendship of the two friends which should have been elaborated and the efforts of Balu to reach Ashok should have been touched with more emotional. The comedy sequence should have been taken care by avoiding this fifteen year old humours. What could have turned out to be a milestone movie like Anbulla Rajinikanth fades away as a Video portfolio of Rajinikanth.I doubt people can wait till the last fifteen minutes.
I am sorry Thalaiva. This is not a movie for you and a fan like me !!!

It was a well known news that Rajini's appearance will be very limited and pasupathi will be the major attraction. But due to the expectation people had on Rajini, even for his 60 minutes (on a whole) appearance was totally wasted by Vasu. Except the last 15 minutes. But still i feel, the movie is worth seeing if u watch without expectation.

Dude, that was a very honest and sincere review from a hardcore Rajini fan!

As far as comedy is concerned, it is not even worth reviewing about...this one is undoubtedly the worst in Vadivelu's entire career!

I feel its a good movie na...may be not a hit..we cant imagine any other hero with such a startdom will match Ashok kumar character...

And i personally feel..Rajni should give such speed breakers as a character artist...his work is wanted to Tamil cinema for lon years..like Amitabh..its a good start..
