Righteous Kill (2008)




Expectations is one thing which can not be avoided for movies.Righteous Kill is one of highly expected movie of the year in Hollywood as the legends of acting AlPacino and Robert De Niero are acting in a full fledged paired movie for the first time.They have never shared a screen more than five minutes .The last time they appeared was in the movie Heat which was for five minutes.

The very obvious question one would ask after watching this movie is why the hell in the whole prestigious career of Pacino and De Niero they choose this movie for teaming up.Two Veteran detectives Turk ( De Niero ) and Rooster ( AlPacino ) work together to investigate on a serial killer .They doubt that they have got the wrong man in connection with a case which they solved years ago.Young guys John Leguizano and Donnie Wahlberg ,fellow detectives are convinced that Turk is the serial killer .Righteous Kill explains why the name was pronounced for the movie.

AlPacino and De Niero are shown to us as a aged ,methodical detectives but the I personally felt AlPacino was underplayed by the character.It was meant to be as such I think.But Robert De Niero is what he is all along.We see less usuals of AlPacino in this movie .At times it looks funny when the two guys in late 60’s trying to get rough with 50 cent .

I am just not pleased with Avnet's directorial style,it didn’t confuse me but what he has shown was a dusty old style .His twists and thrills in the screenplay have worked against the whole pace I would say.It didn’t impress but it worked for the moment when the duo showing off some good piece of conversation between eachother.He has paired a priceless cast of actors and he has just slept over the screenplay.The pacing is all manipulative from the beginning in the movie when it unveils it never adds up any tension nor a shock to the viewer.

I probably think because of the high expectation the movie appeared very ordinary for me.I was very much thrilled to watch after a tire some travel from Madurai.But some how De Niero and Al Pacino save this movie from becoming a becoming another run-of-the-mill cop movie.They should have chosen some other movie for their reunite.Any ways it marks in the History with this choppy dull movie that “ Robert De Niero and Al Pacino acted together in Righteous Kill “

There used to be days when I used to watch a movie twice, thrice or even five times in a theatre. Every one growing up watching Rajini, Kamal would definitely agree; Aboorva sagotharargal, Batsha, Kadhalukku mariyathai or many to name it.  It may be completely not possible today with the schedule and the amount of new content which streams before you. Some movies bring nostalgic moments when they are telecasted today. For example, I usually have it with Bombay, I remember watching it atleast 30-40 times in theatres in and around Tirunelveli. I have rehashed some of Tamil movies which is available in Youtube today which you should watch it again.  These were some of the movies which gave huge inspirations to film makers, script writers or be it any one loves cinema like me. Test it , first 15 minutes of any these movies and I bet you will sure complete the whole movie. With Silambattam Simbu needs a hit badly and he does what he knows the best.Dance and Action. Silambattam is a out and out Tamil Masala movie shot in a village atmosphere.Incidentally the Tamil cinema is able to break the Friday lucky day to release this movie on Thursday. Anantha Thandavam -The original Pirivom Sandhippom

Below is the write up about a movie which I expect so much for this year.The story has been my personal favorite and is based on one of the best Tamil novel which I have read so far.I happened to read the novel Pirivom Santhippom during my college days ,which made me to think aloud about love.Written by Sujatha the story was initially published in Anantha Vikatan in early 80’s.The story of Pirivom Santhippom is of two series first in Tirunelveli second part in America.After eight years I am able to recall each and every characters of the work.This has nothing to do with my memory but with the beauty of the book.The main characters are “Ragupathi and Madumitha “.After reading the book I felt there can not be a sweeter name than Madumitha .Even the name of the particular character while reading the novel will make you feel for Ragupathy.
