Boy A (2007)

Saturday afternoon DVD is always fun ,even ordinary movies might excite you .With some good movies your weekend is assured with joy.Movie freaks would agree with me totally.Boy A is one such good movie which made my weekend .

Boy A speaks about the violent and troubled Pre adolescent kid with the company of a wrong kid Philip. Both murder a young girl and they are put in for rehabilation.Philip dies in Jail and Eric is released at the age of 24 .Terry who Eric’s dad gives Eric a new identity to hide his past as Jack Burridge. To forget about the past and to lead a new life Jack leads the life as a driver when some unpleasant events makes him take a decision which Terry and Jack were trying to conceal.

The story puts up a very strong question of why the boys were troubled kids and their consequences of their action .It also asks very clearly about their second chance to lead a normal life and not to stereo type them on their past.It digs in to the life in the past and present and ends in a very dramatic way to give an answer but I wasn’t moved by the end as I didn’t anticipate the end to be as such.

(Andrew Garfield as the young guy who struggles to hide his past with in himself and to his society who pleads for a life around himself. His fate has been mocked and been treated with unpleasant events which he wants to get rid to lead a normal life .He never accuses his childhood evil friend Philip who remains in his memories. He tells he is the best ever pal he ever had .And Philip is an evil which we may like for his notorious activities but his results were bad to him and the surrounding which casted both Eric /Jack and Philip the life which they never wanted.

The movie travels back forth to present and past with some intelligent scenes in both the places. He earns friendship with Michelle and falls in love with her. The romantic scenes were so close to reality and it has been well shot with some good dialogues. The moving character of the movie is Terry (Peter Mullen) .His command over Jack and his life is understandable and we receive him with clear attitude. He doesn’t want Jack to enter in to a mess again with the past and he guides him through out.In the end Jack leaves a voice message saying “ Thanks for trying Terry “ which tells the clear note to us.

The movie is based on the book written by Jonathan Trigell, and also inspired by the real-life British case of two youths who murdered a young girl as the trials of both the kids went as Boy A and Boy B which was the reason that the movie was named Boy A.These kind of independent and working class character movies gives a real picture of the life style of the people with great level of work done for the emotions and reality.
