Hindi Cinema is now better than Tamil Cinema !!?

Discussing about Cinema is something which every body likes ! My friends used to discuss hours and hours about the new movies and past movies .Our discussion used to dwell on many avenues from Direction, performance and script and so on.Every body nowadays agree that Tamil Cinema is in a huge dearth of stories and good direction.Bollywood has picked up the slot of making highly impressive movies .

Nearly two to three movies releases in Bollywood every week and every fortnight there is a very good movie which is releasing. At any given day I love Tamil movie comparing to Bollywood.I can very well understand Hindi Language but its Tamil cinema which had always fascinated me from my childhood ,college and now.But I see this pathetic phase of Tamil cinema getting so thick and in the near future I don’t see a very good revival .But why there is a sudden change in the Hindi Movie ?

There was Chak De India,Tare Zameen Par,Johnny Gaddar,Aamir,Rock On,Bheja fry,Jab we met,Rock on ,Wednesday can you miss any of these movies which released for in the last one year. But in Tamil you can say Anjathey and Subramaniyapuram that’s it.What else you will name it.You want to name Dhasavatharam then you must be joking. What makes this Bollywood in a renaissance is because of many reasons.First and foremost is that the Corporate production houses have entered in to film making and there is a concept of Script writers which have been followed in Bollywood with flair again. Here we see a high expectation for a movie by all means and in the end we end up with Hero centric movie. You cant see Ajith and Vijay acting in a same movie. But in Bollywood we can see sanjay Dutt, salman,Sharukh in a same screen which provides magic for the screen and it turns out to be entertaining.

We do have splendid actors and technicians at any day, we cant deny that ,but we are sticking to a very bad action plots which should be put off badly.Unless we don’t treat Male actors as performers and for the story we are not going to get good movie. Its high time that Tamil cinema should stop portraying Heroes as God for the society or a Good Bad Guy. Bala is able to create magic in screen because of this.He doesn’t give his character with supernatural actors as it happens now in screen.Mysskins Anjathey was great because it had the intensity ,Subramaniapuram was loveable because it gave us the depth and world of 80’s in a immaculate manner. And these were all successful because they were all about common man who is with in us.

Take Hindi Cinema for instances Wednesday is a movie with no superheroes but it did a great deal because of splendid performance and direction.Rockon was a impressive movie because it showed how a amateur rock band in India would be.Tamil Directors have gone dry I would say.Take for instance Lingusamy he was the director who gave Run and he was the director who gave Bheema.Bheema was a perfect example of how bad a action movie could be.

Problem here is the Tamil cinema is not at all trying in to new avenues which is actually annoying fans like me.They take it for granted that fans wouldn’t encourage new kind of stories. For Godsake Fans knew to appreciate good movies and viewers knew what to watch and what not to watch.I am expecting Naan Kadavul and my personal favourite Anantha thandavam only for the next year .Let Tamil cinema revive from where its brooding.
I am expecting some of my friends to contribute and build a discussion here!!!

I think only Rock on, Wednesday, and Aamir are released in this year, rest all released last year. If we take last year in tamil, then we had paruthi veeran, Mozhi, Polladhavan, Chennai 28, Katradhu Thamizh, Periyar, Onbathu Roobai Nootu to some extent.
But this year its bad, may b its coz, lot movies scheduled this year didnt release. but i would say, hindi is no better than tamil. Next year tamil films again bounce back.

Hi,
Good discussion!
The perspective - I would look at this is - the audience who watch all language movies are growing to a greater extent these days - as people are in a position to judge and review any movie (as we do now) - the media industry has its own role here.
Thus the expectations of the audience as well increase in terms of comparing movies across languages - which is a challenge for the Directors.
And Yes - certain % of Tamil movies do not stick to reality and the movie just revolves around the hero only. Once I came across an interview of Arjun Rampal (probably after the Release of Rock On and the Last Lear). When asked about his upcoming projects - he commented that he does not take more than one project at a time - for he has to sink more into the character and live the character - which will add more charm and realistic feel to the role. Probably - that is why - Bala' s movies are good - as you had quoted - and we all know that his projects are pretty long. I wanted to stress this point - as most of the commercial masala - tamil movies that are released - definitely are woven around the hero only and they (commercial movies) dont give the time for the actors to deliver their best probably. In spite of that those movies can really do good - if the director's story is more focussed - which we had hardly found in "Tamil Cinema 2008"

I agree with you Nithya,..

Bala kills time which no body is able to understand why.If i am right i saw last Bala movie During my MBA and now its been four years.

I agree that We are now looking many language movies which is also making us expect n our language ...

thanks for participating in this..

Yeah mama..you got a point!very valid one. Lets not live in a fool's paradise by saying Southern films are better in quality.

Aamir Khan doing TZP, SRK in CDI are wonderful examples of the changing face of Bollywood...more than anything the success of these films also mean a lot!!

Our stars have got many things to learn from these...right?

Tamil, Telugu , Hindi all are one and the same. Each had their own success at different periods but the real question you must ask is are they original???
Who is seeing these movies? Tamil movies are seen by tamil people all over the world same goes to other languages (Hindi - Indians).
My point is are we not seeing Iranian movies with english subtitles? french movies? How many tamil movies do you think would have come as a dvd in criterion collection?
Right from the times of Ramayana we Indians are copy cats. We have a weak literature. When even Big directors right from Manirathnam, varma , Bansali are not giving a original script what will upcoming directors can do.
We must compare small budget, technically bad Iranian movies with our technically sound, budget wise big, almost 75 years of Indian movies. We stand no where.
When a person like me living somewhere in Mylapore eagerly waiting for a Fateh akin's or Makmalbaf's next movie, do you think anybody from Berlin or Tehran will be with the same eager for a release from any of our Indian directors???
Indian cinema as a whole needs originality.
Thanks,
Mohan.

Ok u have taken this arguement to a different category...I agree Indian movies would not be eagerly awaited by Non Indians.but Iranian movies got in to the this class because they never wanted to try any thing beyond their culture.Their Culture has lots of stories to be told and they stick to that.Like in Tamil we have lots of cultural stories which are still untold we need to pitch in there...Which we sadly dont do it...Recent good movies if you take paruthiveeran.subramaniapuram, poo every thing was mindblowing because they showed us the people whom we knew and who belong to our culture..We lost our track when we tried to mimick the other culture .Tamil as a whole has lot of stories which are yet to be unfolded and only tamil directors can make that.....

I am eagerly waiting for the time period when this would come...

Thanks for your valuable comment.
