Abhiyum Nanum (2008)

When RadhaMohan’s Mozhi released it was a revelation in Tamil cinema for its presentation and feel good factor it adhered. The magic of Mozhi was because of Performances , sensational dialogues ,screenplay and Music. Here the movie has a feel good factor but where are the dialogues ,Music,Characters which are needed for this movie.I was surprised to see Radhamohan movie with such a very normal screenplay. The movie fails to find the momentum due to very bleakly defined characters.

Raghuram loves his daughter Abi and he is possessive about her ,Anu who is the wife of Raghu is a bold and practical .The story is told from the child hood of Abhi from the day she is born till to present day where she is married. This is about a emotions of a father who finds difficult to accept the growth and changes of his daughter. He finds tough to accept Joginder Singh who Abi loves and wants to marry. When he understands his daughter he realises his childlike behaviour .

Prakash Raj in a very controlled and emoting character. We can not have more words for this actor .He has mastered nowadays to speak through his eyes also.Good work from the actor.Trisha’s character needed the depth in the movie which is hugely missing. She had done her role but some how I find her character doesn’t do the justification for the title.Every body speaks about the character Abhi,But she is very normal and her character is very underwritten I think.Trisha fits the role as she makes a great equation with Prakash raj always. The movie is told as Prakashraj narrating the story to Prithiviraj in a park along with Later’s daughter.

There are some characters which are predictable but character Ravishasthri was a likeable. From a beggar to a person in a family ,the role was justified with intentions. But it was overdose at some times. As always every body in the movie are good hearted and too good hearted some times. They are emotional and practical too ready to accept every thing which comes their way. Some times these characters makes the abnormality as we given with too much of goodness.

The movie is very much predictable,as I am not expecting any twists and turns ,I honestly wanted good screenplay from the director who gave Mozhi and Ponniyin Selvan.Abiyum Nanum missed the sail of a neatly made movie as it takes very casual ride and hyped characters some times.Abiyum Nanum doesn’t provide us the depth and emotions which it should have given us.I still feel heavy when I listen to the song “Maragatha vallikku Manakkolam “from the movie Anbulla Appa where Sivaji sends her daughter Nadiya with tears. The stage is similar but the emotions are missing hugely as the character of Abi is not well defined.Radhamohan has worked for the character of the father but he had not provided his craft on the main character who provides the answers for the story.

Radha Mohan is with out Dialogues of Viji and Vidhya sagar has provided one of the very normal tunes of his career to this movie. The team disappoints after a promising and poetic title.
