Thoranai (2009)




I don’t know the releases are not in full flow as it was three months ago,We see a release only two weeks once and then the distribution gets stagnated for months.This week we got Thoranai,Vishal was banking much on this after his debacle Satyam.

Thoranai is a movie which has the story of 70’s and 80’s.Younger brother Murugan ( Vishal ) comes to Chennai in search of his brother .He gets entangled with the gang war of two Dons of the city Tamil Arasu ( Prakash Raj ) and Guru ( Kishore).Its left to Vishal to clean up the gang to take his brother home .

Movie is not worse but couldn’t be treated as a good entertainer thought.Movie entertains in parts with Santhanam doing the magic again through out the first half.He can switch off from his double meaning verses.Vishal doesn’t want to try any thing new as he did stupid in Satyam.This time what makes him loose is the PUNCH DIALOGUES.I couldn’t sit for a second when he speaks those dialogues.Its irritating and it had made the movie miss the grade .Its not only Vishal every one in the movie speaks very lengthy dialogues for no reason.Even in the climax when Vishal pleads to Commissioner he speaks a lengthy throat which actually looks funny.

Prakashraj and Kishore make a good combination of opposite poles but the dialogues between them irritates the whole show.Shreya has nothing to offer other than the songs which appears so idiotically every thirty minutes as a protocol.Santhanam does it again as he did the magic in SMS.He gives a laugh riot with Vishal which is the relaxing part in the movie.Movie could have turned out to be a good entertainer if the over aggressiveness and some over reaction of Vishal was reduced.He had turned out to be copying many actors at the moment which leaves him empty in the screen.Some body in Tamil Industry fight to win against Vishal ! I see no body since his first movie had won fighting against him.He cant continue long if its repeated again.

Director Saba Iyyappan has a very average debut which is doesnt turn out as he wished .Thoranai is an average movie for action lovers ,strictly amateur action nothing very much interesting.

There used to be days when I used to watch a movie twice, thrice or even five times in a theatre. Every one growing up watching Rajini, Kamal would definitely agree; Aboorva sagotharargal, Batsha, Kadhalukku mariyathai or many to name it.  It may be completely not possible today with the schedule and the amount of new content which streams before you. Some movies bring nostalgic moments when they are telecasted today. For example, I usually have it with Bombay, I remember watching it atleast 30-40 times in theatres in and around Tirunelveli. I have rehashed some of Tamil movies which is available in Youtube today which you should watch it again.  These were some of the movies which gave huge inspirations to film makers, script writers or be it any one loves cinema like me. Test it , first 15 minutes of any these movies and I bet you will sure complete the whole movie. With Silambattam Simbu needs a hit badly and he does what he knows the best.Dance and Action. Silambattam is a out and out Tamil Masala movie shot in a village atmosphere.Incidentally the Tamil cinema is able to break the Friday lucky day to release this movie on Thursday. Silambattam is the same old Family revenge story. Anantha Thandavam -The original Pirivom Sandhippom

Below is the write up about a movie which I expect so much for this year.The story has been my personal favorite and is based on one of the best Tamil novel which I have read so far.I happened to read the novel Pirivom Santhippom during my college days ,which made me to think aloud about love.Written by Sujatha the story was initially published in Anantha Vikatan in early 80’s.The story of Pirivom Santhippom is of two series first in Tirunelveli second part in America.After eight years I am able to recall each and every characters of the work.This has nothing to do with my memory but with the beauty of the book.The main characters are “Ragupathi and Madumitha “.After reading the book I felt there can not be a sweeter name than Madumitha .Even the name of the particular character while reading the novel will make you feel for Ragupathy.
