Soodhu Kavvum ***1/2

Welcome Nalan Kumarasamy, It is going to be a great Journey ahead for you. I had a feeling that I was watching a flavored Guy Ritchie movie while watching Soodhu Kavvum. This could be the beginning of career for many and it is definitely a movie worth watching and a fantastic entertainer which has dark and slapstick humor in a noir setting. It could be a great treat to be part of this crew which is totally fresh and awaiting their big dreams coming up real. Soodhu Kavvum could be lined up with NKPK , Pizza but definitely this rates higher in terms of screen play.

Soodhu Kavvum is about the petty thief and their mission to mess up. They are total misfits and they do not have anything up on their life, Character or on their outlook. On the outset every frame makes us to assume their character. Three unemployed youth accidentally meet Das in a brawl, an eccentric petty thief who drives his theft with funny principles. The four get a proposal to kidnap minister’s son in an entangled revenge after they establish themselves as Kidnappers. The problem arise when everybody involved have their own motives except the four idiots. The four men get chased by Cops and end up sitting in the froth.

The best part about the movie is that every one out there is an idiotic misfit of their own league. Nobody has a clear motive, what they are up to. There is a middle aged man who lives in his dream with his girl, the Chief minister who sets target to a criminal, A minister who makes publicity out of his son Kidnap, there is a cop who doesn’t speak for years and goes on a killing spree, An ex don who turns to movie making . In a way this is the motive to group all these misfits to make a laugh riot. And Nalan has succeeded in the same, The major aspect is that I don’t see a shade of any other movies .He has worked in building up the scenes in a sequence, which is much evident and exemplifies when you get through the first part of the movie. Nalan’s diligence gives a fantastic mapping for the viewers which disqualify this movie as thriller, which is actually a satisfying experience for anybody watching the movie. The best experience comes when you are able to easily understand the twists by your self or by guessing, rather than disturbing your intelligent friend who sits near you watching.

Vijay sethupathy is uncompromising and he is cynically getting bigger with his performance, His act meticulously sprouts through the character Das who can be termed cranky but he isn’t. He is not your normal thief who plans with his weapons and intelligence; But he has just pulled off the show with his Psychotic tendencies and imaginary lady love. Ramesh as sekhar is a savior when the movies fades down a bit during the chase sequences, he is one performer who will be seen more often hence forth. What bothered me was the Yog Bajpee as Brahmma, Some how I couldn’t take the robotic Encounter specialist , It didn’t register at all nor it didn’t make me feel comfortable. May be that’s what Nalan wanted ? Every other character in the movie have possession of their space and they have done so well to bring the experience of a good movie.

Nalan just brought a wave , which could follow to spoil our mood or it can be just the good start like Omkara or Kaminey gave for Bollywood movies. Soodhu Kavvum is not a great movie, but definitely a winner among the movies this year.Vijay Sethupathy and Music director Santhosh Narayan, they will have interesting projects under them ! Watch it for its one-liners and great performances.
