Pulp Fiction (1994)
Movie making is an art and I thoroughly believe its not only a form of business. Skills and out of the box thinking makes any movie noteable.We don’t come across movies with non linear plots and charismatic film making so often. You can not watch these movies with such a casual outlook.Quentin Tarantino is a director who makes movies with such a sort of non linearity in story and cinematography. Like his other movies this movie is made in chapters with non sequential order. Highly stylish this movie has all from Strange sex, Drugs, Wine ,Dine, Action, Comedy, Robbery but expertised in a different style.
The story has six chapters and each has a interrelated incidents. One shows the experiences of two hit-men Vincent Vega& Jules Winnfield (John Travolta and Samuel L. Jackson). Other shows Travolta’s date with Mia (UmaThurman), at the request of his Marsellas Wallace (Ving Rhames) gangster boss. And the third shows a boxer Butch Coolidge (Bruce Willis), who has been paid off by Travolta's gangster boss to take a loss in the fight, instead to win the fight and to take the money and run with his girlfriend. They are all interconnected with subplots arranged in a non linear way.
I watched Kill bill before three years which literally took me to shock for the music and film making. But it was a real blood feast. That was the moment I started to have interest on Quentin’s way of film making.Some times I would see its sense less why is he making a normal scene to a so complicated scene.But that’s the difference which he makes on the screen. But the script have always supported him with some authoritative words .Samuel Jackson as Jules Winnfield is rocking with his conversation with Victims ,John Travolta in each of his encounter.He derives the words from the listeners and makes the realize their state.Thats some thing usual with any Gangster but shown in a glamorized way. Bruce Willis makes the role to perfection which is a understated role in the movie. One chemistry which makes you so attractive in the movie is the one between John and UmaThurman.We often come across some unusual silence when we have nothing to speak or some thing to hide .I have never given a definite shape to it on my thought .But when I just saw this scene in the Restaurant I could go back to many moments where unusual silences had let many chances go in the wind.
I see this movie as a movie which shows on handling different situations. There is a hit man who stammers in handling his Boss wife,There is one more Hitman handling the restaurant robbers, Both hit man handling the dead body clearance, There is a boxer handling his life against death. All have been told in a different stylish manner. Style and Glamour in this movie are different from any movie, The cast in movie and converse in a bizarre manner.(Like John and Samuel conversing about foot massage till the moment they enter the room to kill ).At the first instant the conversation looked cranky to me but it was too concrete that I was totally to the movie when it proceeded.Thats the way it was showing the situtation of the Hitmen before an encounter also. I was just imagining the Dance sequence of John and Uma Thurman and the following moments with some curiosity but it all landed in a different ground.
The film took me on a wild ride, but unpredictable and cartoonish. There is a unconventional relief to break the tension, which is most intense during Thurman's overdose. Movie plays some awesome old classics which goes to the mood of the movie along. Any thing which had been shown in this movie is shown to the core and cult that some times makes you feel tempted. One scene which was shot in a stylish way is the when John Travolta takes in Madman drug. The blood trickle out the syringe and drug get inside and doped Travolta drives back hearing a classic. All shot in close up at a sardonic camera style .
Pulp Fiction is one of the movie which has broken the normal formula of any movie making, its so unusual that which tells movie is not a array of scenes. Its can be in any formulated way to make the movie a different package altogether .This kind movie has to be well backed by all aspects because one slip can make it worse of its kind. I thank its so superlative in Pulp Fiction from Music, Script,Camera,Crew and Screenplay.
I am awaiting to see all the movies made by this new age legendary Film maker who has some thing to watch with out getting averted in any point of his creation.
