The Silence of the Lambs (1991)

I had watched Hannibal the sequel of this movie before watching this movie in 2002 .At that moment i had no idea why this crazy doctor had been portrayed as such eating human brains.
Silence of the lambs is a physcological thriller based on the novel by Thomas Harris.
Clarice Starling, a young FBI trainee, is sent to see the imprisoned Lecter in order to ask his expert advice on catching a serial killer given the name Buffalo Bill, who kidnaps women and skins them. The oneline of the story may be very simple but the character Hannibal Necter horrifies you .But you will not miss to enjoy the dynamic interplay between Foster and Hopkins – the real treat of this film. There is one difference aboutDr. Hannibal and our day to day Film villains ,He is extremely intelligent ,piercingly sharp and he is unpleasantly mesmerising .When you look at his he makes you think doubly what he says!!!He is such a complicted man who can not be taken as a dinner companion .Coz he will fry your tongue as his dinner.I am not blunt in this review about this movie when I went through pages of this film there were many insights which arose which I was not able to visualise in the movie. The fore most thing in the movie is Judie Foster treats Anthony Hopkins as a Case study through out the movie rather having any attachment on the subject. In the movie we look Dr.Hannibal from Starlings eyes,We never get in to the view from Hannibals view.He is enduring and undeniably fascinating we are not able to neither stand up for his value system nor accept it.But Anthony Hopkins is a legendary actor and it is one of his masterpiece .One of the best thing of his activities is that he doesnt lets any thing from his mouth ,He makes Starling to speak and derives the words from her words. It was not easy for Starling to psycologize Dr.Hannibal, she hasnt tried it even.

We do meet the killer Buffallo, but he does not become a vital character because he isn't nearly as cunning or vile as Lector. It's interesting to watch Starling track down clues and sources .There are some explicit killing and tortures shown in the movie.
But the best part of the movie Silence of the Lambs is who it plays who are the good guys and who are the bad ,but yet we like Dr.Hannibal rather we get hypnotized by his presentation.
His Character of Hannibal Lecter won him an Academy Award in 1992, and to this day remains the shortest lead role to ever win an Oscar. He appears in the movie for less than 20 minutes.Source :Wikipedia.
Jodie Foster gives us a character who is ambitious, smart, and strong but Hannibal Lecter is too strong for her to handle. But we see the movie from her point ,thats why we are able to differentiate .
On the whole it was a gret treat to watch on the night of Friday 13th .I recommend it to be watched alone.
