The color of Paradise- (Persian)(1999)

I remember a presentation we did in our college days about Arvind Eye hospital for which our team members decided to switch off the auditoriums light before starting the presentation. The inspiration was to give the feel of being blind, It worked out well. But I often used to imagine how the world looks for me when I close my eyes.I can take a manipulation of what’s happening around because I had been living with vision till that moment. But for Mohamed (Mohasen Ramezzani) life is in the darker shades from his birth. All he hears is sound of the birds ,feel of the things going around in which he searches God.

How often you come across a movie with mood just traveling across the characters.Color of Paradise is about unsighted kid .Film opens with Mohamed waiting for his father (Hossein Mahjoub) to take him back to his village for his holidays. His father arrives late and he is reluctant in taking him back home also. He returns home and enjoys with his sisters and Old Granny. His father trying to evade him one point puts him alone with a blind carpenter .Why his father? and how Mohamed ? is not manipulative for you but shocking .Color of paradise is the trail by which Mohamed sees the world through his mind.

Directed by Majid Majidi who became the face of Iranian movies to world after the movie Children of Heaven had made a clear-headed presentation of his characterization.
The movie spins around the Mohamed which makes to feel the beauty of world along with the poor kid.We enjoy the wheat field ,we read words in braille ,we enjoy the flowing river so very obviously we are engulfed by the mood of Mohamed in the course. Many times sensual brilliance brings the whole emotions more than words,One particular scene when Mohamed feels the growth of his sisters is a rare piece of texture in any part of movie world. Feeling a life when its literally dark has meaning of its own and Mohamed tell us the meaning through his tears .Craving for affection is what the poor boy cries when he ultimately who at one point of time fiddles with the change ,letting all his hope down as his dark world. One thing which comes to your mind when you comprehend with this kid is his brilliance on screen depiction of the character.

Mohamed when left with Carpenter says “Our teacher says that God loves the blind more because they can't see. But I told him if it was so, He would not make us blind so that we can't see Him.” He is made to understand that God is invisible and he can be felt with hands, That one scene tells you why Mohamed feels every moment .The movie speaks of his search for love and quench for his affection ,He searches for God which are not deliberately presented which are revealed in each of his actions . Most of the moments it goes unhearing and it settles as tears with in him.

One thing which comes to the mind when seeing this movie is Iran is not a desert ridden country ,Beautiful hills, wheat fields and fresh water bodies shows a bright look to the movie .I would confidently say the location is a character in this movie. The elegance of this movie lies with the simplicity it shows and the way its shown as a part of the life.Journey of love and human evil is shown with such a purity which tells you at the end what a inherent love can do at the spiteful moment.Movie has a background score from nature which lets you to take the journey with peace .One moment when the music plays is at the climax where there is a need to play to reveal a change of state.

The movie as a art varies in many forms and I would say this movie has a versatile class which stands apart many artificial movie.Because the tone of human behaviour is shown as two shades one with blind beauty and one with brutal sense .But both the shades meets at a point when Majid Majidi strikes gold where the viewers sees the color of paradise along with Mohamed .
