Mystic river (2003)

Its been so long in my line up that I watched a good thriller .I wanted to have a real stylish thriller for my Sunday night. Mystic river had the real bunch of people whom I love Kevin Becon and Sean Penn. But the movie gave me a experience of watching a movie on ache of guilt rather a thriller. The movie is about a investigation carried out on a murder of Nineteen years old girl . Mystic river has got a capricious and unexpected murderer of the Murder which will not be in our notes of manipulation. But when you end up knowing who is the murderer it lets you with least shock for a movie which had been carried out by some beautiful screen play and dialogues. But I would say the investigation part is awe-inspiring and I can see some Regional movies also taking so bits and pieces of the same.
Movie starts with Sean Devine, Jimmy Markum, and Dave Boyle, playing hockey in the street when Dev Boyle is taken by dummy Cop for some spoiling public property. He is molested by them and Dave manages to escape. After this child hood tragedy Jimmy daughter’s murder brings three of them in a circle in different perspective of the murder.Jimmy daughter’s murder is investigated by Sean Devine in which Dave becomes the prime suspect who still goes through the worst memories of child hood.
The best part of it is Director Clint Eastwood not only gives significance to Murder and investigation but also to the each character which is around in the movie. That frames the movie with a different outlook on the investigation .Kevin Becon disagree to concentrate When ever Fella cop Laurence Fishburne suspects Tim Robbins. And when Sean Penn breaks out the crowd to see his daughter’s body he shouts amidst the crowd which Kevin Becon gets bound to reply on .This brings the bondage between the old pals who share a undefined sorrow between them after the childhood separation.Sean Penn gives an explosive performance and he breaks out too often in this movie (Sean Penn won best actor Academy award for this character) .I was surprised to see Kevin Becon so poised and composed in a cop character. One scene where Tim Robbins scores ahead of all is when he describes about the Vampires to his wife. That particular scene terrifies his wife and it really makes you to point on him .But I was not convinced with the way his character being portrayed so detached in thoughts,When he is able to share some lighter moments with Jimmy's cousins in the end at the bar.The film can not be called as a thriller as a genre because the movie speaks beyond the murder.
It carries lots of subclasses thankfully not elaborated ,but they lead to the movie’s dark content .Absolutely the movie speak on the dark sides of each character and it does not hesitate to burst it emotionally. When we watch along we study each of the character with their emotional flare-ups. But it also speaks on the domestic responsibilities of each of the character in the movie.Thats how the movie takes its time to reveal why is all about?
I didn’t have the feel of the thriller but thoroughly I was impressed by the Eastwood’s way of letting the memories and pain in the characters whom he had marked upon. Mystic river has its pain and suspense of its own which is so anguish and it becomes the real story amidst a murder of a little girl.

As similar to you, I watched this movie when I was doing my MS with expectation of action movie. And end of it, I was kind of perplexed on what to react. In the sense, the heavy feeling of innocence executed mixed with how the character of Sean Penn might feel on learning that. It took some time for me to really come out of it due to the tragic in the end. I need to watch it again some point of time, as I have started to watch movies with almost no expectation. But well written and analyzed review. One small suggestion is that to justify the paragraph also spell check it. I would also suggest to properly paragraph it. As Mathi said, it is not necessary to give out the whole plot lines. I can see your reviews improving day by day. Keep it coming man !
