Children of Men (2006)

Some times imaginations go weird for film makers.Such a kind of imagination is Children of Men. What will happen if all women in world become infertile and there are no children born for nearly eighteen years ! Its such a acidic imagination which interests you about the whole movie right from the beginning. When I took the DVD I was hoping for different kind of movie ,but Children of Men took me for a shock with its script and technical co works for the movie. Children of men is an approach to versatile sci-fi with a touch of emotions . Children of men is inspired from the book of the same title.Directed by Alfonso Cuaron the movie is about faith and hope .Humanity strikes at many places when there is a scarcity .

Movie happens in 2027! But the usual men but with societal collapse, explosions all over with the racism take a mocking shape through out. Britain becomes a armed camp and the refugees are thrashed down all over. Theo Faron (Clive Owen), a former political activist is being kidnapped by Fishes group led by Theo’s X wife Julian Taylor (Julianne Moore) for helping them to obtain a Transit visa for Some of Fishes member. In the course Taylor dies and Kee reveals Theo of she being conceived.Theo and Kee runs to save the unborn child amidst the terrorist camp and armed camp .They run even after Kee giving birth to the child.
Movie speaks on calamitous destruction through out . Some times when we watch a lengthy dialogue shot in a single shot we feel it through the difference it makes in the whole presentation. But can you guess a action sequence with 17 minutes long being shot in a single take .I was wondering the speed of the camera crew and the lens precision of the equipment. More over the shot does not stop at a single instance, It travels from a collapsed street to destructed apartment back to street all being with gun fires and chase. The camera of Children of men speaks for the technical expertise which has been carried through out the movie. Though the movie slows of in the middle the last thirty minutes are so intense and dark which gives the real treat. Captured in the same way of black hawk down the whole color of the movie is blue/grey which keeps you uncomfortable through out.
.
I was repeatedly getting confirmed who is fighting and why are they fighting because the whole movie is full of blood shed for no reason clearly being told.People risk their lives and hide out ,run but what was the drive underlying for a fierce battle was not clearly confirmed. If Political disorder due to infertility and societal destruction then I would stick to odd thinking. Some scenes really moves away from being watched as a movie, which were so real .Particularly when Theo and Kee hides out the child to escape. Emotionally it was disturbing and was reinforcing the theme “Hope and faith”
Among all the sci-fi movies this is one rare piece which makes to think in many ways from society, surroundings and politics. The commentary which gives a different piece of message which we can take it absurd /strange /to think. Left to the viewers. I took it strange .Children of Men is unarguably is one rare breed of movie for high level of camera work and versatile movie making.I enjoyed it though it sounded odd for me .

HI

Why no scores for many movies, Children of men for example. With your scores, I thought I could narrow down few movies from your whole list to watch this week end.

And to put in another angle, like all critics do u feel english movies are beyond our scope to rate or only tamil movies are exposed to scrutiny. Do rate English also. bye

No syed....I am not rating any English movies because of simple reason that they are all comparatively older movies.I dont have any oppurtunity to watch all new English movies.BuT i Still watch it..Tamil movies and Hindi I can give a rating because they are new and readers can watch accordingly...One thing for sure my first line of any review will tell u whether its a worth watch...infact the last line..But i would recommend to read it fully..:)
