The Third Man (1949)

After some tiresome hunting in the DVD library I settled with this movie, having no idea of what this movie is?. From the DVD cover I was able to make out it’s a thriller set in 70’s.I was completely wrong with the movie set in 1940’s .This is one class movie of British thriller movies family with a sequential screen play and bright camera. One of the best masterpiece which was constructed to result as a Time less movie after 60 years. This movie is a adoption of the novel written by Graham Greene.Directed by Carol reed who made Oliver ,Odd man out.It is a bash of legends of movie coming together in a beautifully made movie.

The whole movie is set in Vienna and the city is one among the character in the movie with the movie exponentially picks from the scene one.Writer Holly Martins (Joseph Cotton) arrives to Veinna for meeting his friend Harry Lime (Orson welles) to settle down.He comes to know that he was killed by an accident in the main road..When he hears varied conclusion about the accident Martins doubts it to be a murder. Suspicious Holly meets the porter who confirms there was three men carrying the body of Harry. The movie races with Holly Martins finding who the third man is ?

Long dark shadows ,some haunting music ,deep run tunnels and stabile streets gives a real fear of watching a classic Thriller. What lies the best part of this movie it tells the movie makers “How to make a thriller with twirls till the end.It also clearly shows of the black market which was dominant in Europe after world war II. Right from the first scene the movie is so dense and dark portraying a war torn city. The whole characters are not as it looks and every body hides some thing with in them.the way the camera plays with dark and light makes it a clear piece of excellence. This is a real race between Cootton and Welles and Welles overtakes him through his charming short appearance. viewing with the mesmerizing, lamenting and deep camera really shows why thrillers are big hits in the past .

Third man is a visually stylish movie which should be watched for the theorem which has proved with the elements of Camera ,performance, music and screenplay and proving it to be a classic thriller ,educating any of today's directors on how to set lights for suspense and intense plots. At any part of the movie I never felt I am watching a old thriller ,the movie is still fresh and enigmatic .The third man is rated as No :1 movie of the 20th century by British film association and it truly deserves to be there.
