Witness (1985)


There is a movie in Tamil “Sura samharam “ starring Kamal Hassan where he plays a cop who investigates a crime.The fist 20-30 minutes of Sura samharam is a shot by shot duplication from Witness.Witness starring Harrison Ford ,Danny Glover, Kelly McGill’s is about a investigation about a murderwhch took place in airport and incidentally a Amish Kid Samuel is the witness for the murder.How Harrison Ford moves along after the murder to investigate is Witness.

Witness on the whole is not a thrilling or action movie which I was hoping for.Its a calm movie which made with some romance and relationships. The movie speaks about the life and characters of Amish community. It becomes compelling for Ford to fit in to the environment with level of calmness to fish out the murderer. Until he settles I was scuffling my mind with the initial thirty minutes which happens in Philadelphia thinking about the murderer.

The Amish community rejects most forms of modern technology to live a simple life on the farm They hate cars and learn only till eighth grade and they follow non violence staunchly .It looks different to see such a kind of life in American Land ,this community was not portrayed in a detailed manner in any of other movies amidst a serious trap of murder. Though the movie has the usual main plot on the whole after watching the movie it can be recalled as a movie of a man who experiences a different lifestyle and encountering different characters in his life and in the end getting back.I enjoyed the romance between the Ford and Kelly Mcgilles it was charming and equally ackward but was thrilling ...!Thank fully they were never made to make it a usual movie lust.

Harrison Ford exactly fits in to detective John Book gives a Macho look in the first thirty minutes.From the movie moving to Amish environment he surprisingly puts himself as an Amish .Harisson Ford is one amazing actors who fits in to any of the roles.Danny Glover as a bad guy (It was so different ) and his groups have little to play in this movie .The story line is simple ,the characters are comfortable majority of the work for its acclaim is done by its screenplay.Such a cool and compiled screenplay which slowly attracts you and familiarize with the alien culture of Amish.Screenplay and camera are so fresh which had made this movie a loveable one.

There used to be days when I used to watch a movie twice, thrice or even five times in a theatre. Every one growing up watching Rajini, Kamal would definitely agree; Aboorva sagotharargal, Batsha, Kadhalukku mariyathai or many to name it.  It may be completely not possible today with the schedule and the amount of new content which streams before you. Some movies bring nostalgic moments when they are telecasted today. For example, I usually have it with Bombay, I remember watching it atleast 30-40 times in theatres in and around Tirunelveli. I have rehashed some of Tamil movies which is available in Youtube today which you should watch it again.  These were some of the movies which gave huge inspirations to film makers, script writers or be it any one loves cinema like me. Test it , first 15 minutes of any these movies and I bet you will sure complete the whole movie. With Silambattam Simbu needs a hit badly and he does what he knows the best.Dance and Action. Anantha Thandavam -The original Pirivom Sandhippom

Below is the write up about a movie which I expect so much for this year.The story has been my personal favorite and is based on one of the best Tamil novel which I have read so far.I happened to read the novel Pirivom Santhippom during my college days ,which made me to think aloud about love.Written by Sujatha the story was initially published in Anantha Vikatan in early 80’s.The story of Pirivom Santhippom is of two series first in Tirunelveli second part in America.After eight years I am able to recall each and every characters of the work.This has nothing to do with my memory but with the beauty of the book.The main characters are “Ragupathi and Madumitha “.After reading the book I felt there can not be a sweeter name than Madumitha .Even the name of the particular character while reading the novel will make you feel for Ragupathy.
