Vel (2007)

First day first show for a diwali release is always exotic that too in your native place.I went for Vel and I regretted for it.At the out set it was advertised as Surya’s performance in Village character.Anticipating that when I entered ,I was totally taken for a ten years before movie.Vel if would have released in the period of Rajathi raja it would have been a big hit.

Vasu and Vel (Both played by Surya as twin brothers) are separated in a train when they were one month old.Vel grows in Dindugal with Lakshmis family and Vasu grows with his parents ,Vasu’s parents Charanya and Charanraj still worries on the fatal loss of their elder son.Vasu goes in search of Vel and wins their heart and vel and vasu exchange places.Vasu fights against the Vels arch rival Kalabavan Mani and end is as usual twin brother fights against him to give a relief for the viewers.

First and fore most does Director Hari is capable of making movies with out a villain.The so called tactical works against the villain looks horrible and it’s a real poor screen play for any sort of emotions.Charanraj is wasted completely and he could have taken Kalbavan Mani’s character and Kalbavan Mani is the same old nonsense villain which we have seen in many movies. Surya is said to be choosy among the heroes but has been confused by Hari I believe. Such a idiotic story can not hit the screen ,but still the movie will be a average hit for two reason.It has five fights and a descent comedy track by Vadivelu the only relief in the movie.Asin looks pity in this movie and she has no opportunity to act or romance ,because the movie is tied completely on the twin brothers.

Music - Yuvan shankar raja ????. Surya looks good ,fights great and acts well ,he is a matured actor now a days but why Vel that’s my doubt.it would give him only a stop gap hit and better not to choose . If he had done this movie with passion then we can anticipate this kind of Mokkai movies from him.

Fierce chases,Sumo to sumo clashes and big moustache cast are the trade mark of Director Hari and he has maintained it .But it’s a crime to make a movie and deceive audience with age old story .Hari is still in the hang over of his old hits. If this movie is a hit then I am still sure Har'is next movie also will be with the same formula.We cant save it.
