Evano Oruvan (2007)

Tamil cinema is not new with the man who fights against the society and its turbulences. The viewers are well versed with the actions and the counter action the hero takes up with such kind of plot.We have celeberated many movies of such genre where a average middle class man rises suddenly to eliminate the completele turmoil of Bribe and corruptions. We have been made to believe it is possible with such kind of things only with the movie.

Evano oruvan comes with the same genre of a single soul fighting (Sridhar vasudevan ) against the system in a way which is capable to him. Frustrated by the corrupted system Sridhar Vasudevan looks behind on a day when a school principal demands donation for his daughter admission and on the same day when a petty shop fellow charges additional price for cool drinks. Multitude of things surmount him to burst on that particular incident when he starts hunting .The next 48 hours of his hunting is Evano oruvan.Madhavan as Sridhar Vasudevan ,Sangeetha as Vatchala wife of Sridhar Vasudevan and Seeman as Vetri maran are the main role players .Evano Oruvan directed by Nishikanth Kamat who directed the original version of Evano oruvan in Marathi as Dombivili Fast.

First and fore most thing which shows difference is this movie has no songs ,no fights,no fierce chases. But still it maintains a intense and dense mood for which the screenplay has to be applauded. The movie speaks on the mind of Sridhar Vasudevan from his point and the police officer’s point. This kind of movie style is new for Tamil viewers because the whole mood picks up with in fifteen minutes from the start and Sridhar Vasudevan starts his journey from there. The movie also runs for a short duration of 110 minutes which may look different for many.

Madhavan is a definitely a different member when it comes to performance ,I have enjoyed many of his gusty performance but Evano Oruvan is definitely a cut above the class.Madhavan looks ,walks, behaves as a typical middle class person.I even felt before the movie that Madhavan may not suit for the middle class appearance. But I was totally wrong because his looks and style has been shaped well even his glass frames and trouser pleats which clearly shows what a middle class wears.

The direction and the screenplay has struck to a pace which is definitely different for us,since we are used to 2 ½ hrs movie style .That might let down for some of the viewers but still definitely the movie starts and ends with a definite mood not compromising and deviating to any aspect other than the essence of the plot.I felt the discontented with the motivation which makes Sridhar Vasudevan a criminal. Breaking down a petty shop does not make a most wanted criminal in the city and I was also not pleased with the intuition of Seeman in predicting Sridhar Vasudevan going to be a big difficulty for the society.I don’t how the director justifies the particular thing, if it was not predicted it could have been a very interesting and racy movie. But I agree the movie was not intended to look as such and I accept the creators way .

There is a big funny thing in this movie,Seeman who is a Tamil aficionado in real life had maintained Pure Tamil(Many in Senthamil ) words in his dialogues as Vetri Maran ,for example the final scene in the train. It could have been easier for him to convince the director because the Dialogues were written by Madhavan and audited by Seeman But one of the very important scene in the movie is the scene when Commissioner ordering the fate of Madhavan to Seeman .That scene should show the power holders thought about Sridhar Vasudevan which is bringing a conclusion to the movie. I was shocked the whole flow of dialogues was in English and that too the words were not so convincing.I dont say the middle class does not understand English but That moment I felt the movie about Middle class citizen is not targeted on middle class it is for multiplex audience. Funny thing its like the same end, Movie Directors speak lot through the movie and they forget where to target .All the posters showing “ Its about You is a Hypocrite act.” I think that made me dissatisfied completely.
Rating :7.8/10

Am not sure if it's the pirated version or what, but this film gave me a headache and I couldn't sit through it. I had to stop midway; the scene where Madhavan's put behind bars. Having watched so far, I feel it is no different than Anniyan/Indian/Mudhalvan, etc. Hmmm..anyway, having downloaded the film, I'll watch the rest of the movie this weekend, and I'll come back here :)
