Anjathey(2008)

I want to write a lengthy review about this movie.Anjathe made me realise what is missing so badly after Ilayaraja .I have not experienced such a soulful and scintillating BGM in the recent past.Anjathe is different and it is in a different class for Tamil Cinema.The story and characters might be the usual but the creator had shown a major change to the way the movie appeal.

Anjathey directed by Myskin on life of two friends who were forced to take up different paths in the life . Sathya(Narain) as a police officer who was a troublemaker once and his friend Kiruba Shankar (Ajmal) who turn up in to a social evil, once aspired to be a police officer face the life’s serious notes because of a ominous guy Dhaya (Prasanna).Dhaya does young girls kidnapping and pedalling with a small time guy Chappai and Logu (Pandiarajan).Kiruba feels disappointed when he fails in the police selection and he bursts on Sathya for illegally getting selected to selection.Kiruba joins Dhaya.The hunt is on for Dhaya when they kidnap the IG’S daughter.

Now here is a movie director in Tamil after a long time who has wide knowledge in Scripting,Characterisation,Music,Visuals.Mysskin has shown a different class and I am very clear on my statement that many of the so called successful directors in Tamil can better learn from him what is film making and what makes a film making .Mysskin has shown clear differences in this movie ;First and foremost is the time he had taken ,he wanted to show the change of Narain’s character for which he had shown with beautifully made scenes with a old lady and a deadbody.Next is his visuals are really threatening.He has tried a new angles for almost all the shots which I enjoyed a lot.And a movie’s BGM depends only on the mood of the director.Its the director who has to steal from the mind of Music director.Mysskin has done it with Sundar C Babu.It was a treat to hear the Violins playing for nail biting scenes.Sundar C.Babu has delivered a knocking performance .

Myskin is a different breed I can feel when I see his frames.His every characters has some thing to say,like in Bala’s movies some characters will be a mystery for us why it was there in the movie. Myskin’s some characters are also enigmatic but he reveals every character .The character Kuruvi wears a TShirt which shows different statements every time ,Once it shows Chey ,then it shows golden eagle.And more to add the face of the fourth member of the gang is not revealed till the end.When he turns the face it is too late for every body.The bike travel of Narain with a deadbody emphaises a “Road ahead with emptiness “ point when he becomes helpless in the situation.His angles in the last scenes towards a chameleon.I can add many.

To be very frank I took some time in finding some mistakes,logically it was perfect.But sentimentally Mysskin had disappointed me.If you have such a skill to make a movie like this why the hell you need a song resembling the song “ Valameenu “ with the same costume and dance steps.Why was the fight sequence of Narain in the first half so artificial like Sithiram pesuthadi.This movie would be a great movie if it was with out any track songs .The title song “Acham thavir would have done all the magic. Mysskin should not have compromised .The character of Pandiarajan could have been made different ,it resembles his old gimmicks .
Naren as I said was artificial in the first half but God in the second half he is amazing.Ajmal’s debut could not have been better with any other movie.If i had a chance to speak to Mysskin i would ask “Why Prassanna “.But he was different in many scenes.His mannerisms are new and body language had been groomed and drilled i would say.

They say in Cinema it is very easy to give a good debut movie,but the very difficult thing is the second movie.Because it rates what he is made of.Mysskin as I said is a different and well educated breed for Tamil cinema.And Anjathey is a big relief after too much of disappointing releases this year.
