Kadosh(Israeli/Hebrew-1999)

Make a movie like this I would say when dealing with specific community. Stigmatic problems of society had to be dealt in a sensitive manner, sometimes in a blunt way.Kadosh (Sacred ) is a two way movie which deals the emotions of a female in a orthodox community.

Kadosh deals with the Jewish community where Men see themselves more powered and treating women as a reproducing machines.More on that they devote every thing to God ,for their happiness and sadness. Its about Rivka (Yaƫl Abe cassis) and her husban Meir(Yoram Hattab) who share a marriage life for years and yet no children. With consultation from a Doctor she learns her husband is infertile .She feels the disability to convey to her husband .The tolerance of Rivka gets in a stake when Malka her sister goes along with her boyfriend Yakov .
Rivka’s barreness makes her disposable for her husband through a divorce. It’s one of the heinous shared Muslim society practice at the end .But the fact remains real for most of the scene.

It takes some patience to know whats the crux because the religious practices are shown with eloboration to make understand manner and they form the base for the male characters. It’s a minimal characters the director has chosen as the point the director lies with the two women Rivka and Malka. It’s a burst of the emotions of a director we can say when the women in the movies are made dumb in expressing their views. So bluntly when the doctor speaks one would take a clear view why the stigma around the female suffocation. The suffocation of the two female in the screen for the inability in the society and the treatment becomes a eruption for the director to give a heated treatment for this movie.

Director Amos Gitai who hit to fame after this movie is highly selective in presenting the practices but he has taken time to show his selection .His views are about the women community treatment in the name of the religion but I felt all the characters were so depressive .It’s a flat movie with regard to performances as every body sticks to pain struck mood.

It is not a easy movie to take it as your enjoyable movie, because when reality is spoken with anger it can not be enjoyed,it can be sympathized or it can let you a wrenching effect on you. Some times I do feel regardless of the society it speaks the female community emotions after marriage in many systems gets subdued for the sake of the so called commitment. But it should not be repression of women in the name to religious doctrine. Definitely Khadosh doesn’t speaks for love between a man and a women ,,for instance it clearly shows Meir’s love for Rikav but when the canon of religion gives a ideologies for life which can not be for the comfort of the human then the damned love also goes a fritter away .That’s why the end of the two sisters hailing from a orthodox jewish community take a different directions when the tolerance of their emotions commit a breach.
