Sarkar Raj (2008)

Before going for the movie I was having the frustration of watching Sholay remake from RGV where I decided that he is not a stuff to be celeberated as a great director. He has made good movies with action and Mafia like Siva,Company,Sarkar . Sarkar was a story which was inspired from Godfather ,who can not have the inspiration from Cuppalo’s classic. But RGV wanted intentionally to differ from the orginal version and spelt loud this is one of the good made movie from him for some good performances and plot.

Sarkar Subash Nagre ( Amitabh Bachan) retires and Shankar (Abishek ) takes over from him.Things are not the same as the regime of Sarkar.Shankar is aggressive and he is fast in all the actions which are taken.A company headed by Anitha (Aishwarya Rai ) and her father approaches Sarkar to set up a power plant in a village in Maharashtra ,Takirwadi.Sarkar opposes but Shankar gets the concurrence of his father and he goes with Anitha to educate the villagers about the project. He becomes entangled in a political and mafia conspiracy, which destroys the Nagre family.

There are villains all around in this movie ,when you end up and stand you will have the vague feeling which tells you the movie has some way up to go to become a classic making. The movie takes a visual treat as it was in Sarkar with some intense and dramatic sequences .The angles and lighting were orginal and I loved each moment of the color the movie was made. But the BGM same Govinda Govinda.RGV could have changed it.

Amitabh as Subash helps RGV to give a great presentation. The man who steals is him.His acting has to be mounted with praise for many scenes, and as usual his delivery is astounding .One particular scene during the bomb blast he searches in the crowd for his son ,he was amazing ! Truly a legend. The movie is made for Abishek and he does it with perfection. But people stare at each other relentlessly and I don’t understand what to make out from that ????.Abishek has maintained the intensity throughout with his performance.Aishwarya Rai as a corporate who is embroiled in to the politics and ends the movie with a note for the Sequel.

RGV makes mistake in some parts which could have been avoided.I loved the story telling but I don’t see it as appealing ,because it’s a slow movie. The movie is short but still the conversations are lengthy .Amitabh speaks a lot in this movie and when we see Amitabh getting in to the action in the last scenes with out even speaking it looks different .It shows him as only the old man who still has the power ,and not as the Sarkar whom we saw in the first part. The visuals are interesting but RGV restricts himself to only closeup shots which creates a boredom among the viewers. When a camera is shown right to the faces of two persons who are speaking each other,it doesn’t look like an conversation it looks like interview. Some of the scenes are predictable and some the scenes are unpredictable both are seriously affecting the movie .At one point both has left the movie hanging when it was sailing smooth.

Sarkar Raj is a good movie ,a worthy watch for the performances and seeing RamGopal varma gaining his rhythm back to some extend is encouraging .But I would not rate high as Sarkar or Company .Still the guy is missing of that calibre. He has become more predictable and we are easily able to make out where he is taking the clues for the screenplay that’s what is not so great in him nowadays.
