Blow (2001)

Movies about cocaine and Marijuna have compiled to become one of the best of Hollywood.Be it Goodfellas,Scarface ,Godfather every thing has little or excess of drug and trafficking in it.For years its been fascinating the viewers with different levels of failed anti heroes .

Blow is a true story about the man George Jung played by Johnny Depp who in the movie tells “85 % of the America’s drugs in 70’s were supplied by him.He rises from a normal dropout to a high profile Cocaine dealer ,then looks back when he becomes a father. By then every thing is late and he gets embroiled in a FBI trap for a life time sentence.

Blow is not a great movie but it’s a good movie for sure. It never lets the viewers to think its cinematic because the movie is made in such a fashion of compilation of the events which happened in George’s life. That surely makes me feel some scenes were running fast even. He peddles so easily and he distributes fooling every cops around. There isn’t any intelligent stuff in the movie as he claims ,but sure there is a level of patience and doggedness the Drug dealer posses which was well shown by Johnny Depp.

There is one scene where Johnny Depp meets his Dad Ray Liotta to tell him about his success “ Dad I am good at what I am doing and I am the best “ .Looking at him Ray Liotta answers in a intense words “ Son you would have been good if you were not doing this also “ He answers in such a intense manner which would surely tell you what a kind of chemistry they having been sharing in the movie as Father and Son.The rise and fall of a man when his dad is around him watching is well constructed and well narrated. It was good to see Ray Liotta acting as a old man I haven’t seen much of his movie except Good Fellas.

The movie throws a lot of questions to the American society as why was he thrown to drug peddling, why was his path uncontrollable ?and in the end he falls from the crest to make us choose the answer. Some of the Drug dealer movies shows the hero as a “The man” but here it is a delicate character who loves his wife ,he longs for his daughter and he needs money. The priorities of this is not confusing for him but the priorities makes him enter the drug world.

In the end the movie shows what George pays for his blindness through out his life and what he takes for the rest of his life.Beautiful performances and well narrated incidents makes me note this movie.
