Aamir (2008)

If you are very selective in watching Hindi movies you have to add this in your list.Amir is not a movie which tells you about the glamourous bollywood and songs. Its a movie which defines a new dimension for Hindi cinema. It has been critically acclaimed and I had missed it when it got released as the show timings were in the afternoon

Amir is a story of a Doctor Amir(Rajeev Kandhelwal) landing India ,who is dragged in by unknown voice which is been hearing through a mobile phone which was forcefully handled to him.The voice threatens him to do as per his instruction ,Amir does it as his family’s been hijacked by the person.Amir runs as per the instruction and in the end the movie tells you a answer in an unconventional manner.

This is a struggle of a single person who is been followed by terrorism ,crime and shades of extortion. He runs for his family and he is been put in to enormous amount of blackjacking and compulsion which is vividly expressed by Rajeev Kandhelwal. The movie has no starcasts and he is only man who is shown in the camera in a identifiable manner. All the other characters are hidden or shaded.

Director Rajkumar Gupta has given a impressive and bold debut with this movie .He hasn’t replied of what is raised as a question .He never answers about the Zihad war of Muslims. He makes Amir and the unknown voice to speak and introspect about the situation which is actually impressive in many parts.Technically the director has taken pains in showing the streets and daily life of Mumbai in a immaculate manner which should be appreciated .

Movie in parts resembles Johnny Depp starer Nick of Time for the plot but the theme and execution is completely different.A normal man’s dreadful day is well shown with leaving no clues of why and what?.As a viewer we will not have any clue where the movie can lead in the next minute. But we have a clear idea as it speaks of Zihad ,then it could be a sort of Bomb blast. We are right ,but in the end the execution of the bombing raises many questions for the director and ofcourse for us.

The chases and the compulsive behaviours are shown brilliant manner which is actually rare as the director is holding a plot which happens only for four hours. Its not a usual movie ,its indeed a different movie and I enjoyed for many aspects mentioned.
