Padikkathavan (2009)

I was expecting this Director Suraj Movie very much as his previous ventures were impressive as a fast paced movie and had some good comedy track.Even Dhanush gave three impressive movies last year so I was totally expecting this movie.But Padikkathavan is a B Grade Movie in all aspects which fails miserably with some very slim chance and scope in all departments.

Dhanush as Radhakrishnan who is a unemployed ,Uneducated guy and who is being targeted by his Dad Prathappothan for his irresponsible attitude and careless behaviour.He falls in love with Gayathri (Tamanna ) who is daughter of Simmareddy (Suman ),A Don in Andhrapradesh.His rivalry Don Sayaji Sinde wants to take revenge for Suman murdering Sayaji’s Son.Suman cleans up the rival gang and comes to know about his daughter’s love affair which he eventually accepts.A new mess pops up from Tirunelveli for Dhanush which he has to clean up to marry Tamanna.

I don’t know nothing was impressive in the movie and I was expecting that movie would turn up some how at some point.The first thirty minutes was such a normal and the next part was very much manipulative which didn’t work out.The Dhanush as his usual careless unemployed guy.He should watch out ,things are getting bored when he acts in such a very normal movie.Thiruvilayadal,Pollathavan,Yaradee Nee Mohini all his characters were similar and this one is also same.But they had some substance when the movie enters plot but this one was blank

Suraj worked the comedy track for Vadivelu and he had casted Vivek as Asault Arumugam and Vivek had done some of the mannerisms of Vadivelu ,This looks very pathetic for a comedian who has nothing to prove.But the character of him here in not impressive and he has to look out for avenues as he did in Anniyan.Suman and Sayaji Sindhe had done their part but the disappointment here is Atul Kulkarni with his role as Kasi from Tirunelveli which was not needed at all.Tammana who has a big fan following with out even casting in full fledged movie as Heroine this comes as the one.But she has nothing to perform or impress.An ordinary Tamil cinema Heroine role.

On the whole for the director who gave two commercially successful movies this could be a debacle and for Dhanush the success run is tested again here,It’s a normal and very ordinary movie for Pongal with no substance.
