Slumdog Millionaire

Slumdog millionaire comes to India when it’s nominated for 10 Oscars and winning 4 Golden globe. Movie which the whole nation is speaking about I would say. Anywhere in my office if there is a discussion it’s about Slumdog Millionaire. Probably I was one of the very few persons who saw the movie very late. Because I was very serious that I need to watch it in theatre. As all my friends watched it in Pirated DVDs.

Slumdog Millionaire is a British film directed by Danny Boyle and written by Simon Beaufoy It is based on the Boeke Prize winning novel Q and A by Indian author and diplomat Vikas Swarup

Jamal (Dev Patel) a small time tea server in a call center is in the verge of winning 2 crores in the reality show who wants to be a millionaire. The answers for the questions are some thing which he had faced in his life for twenty years. As he rightly points out one need not be a genius to win millions in the reality show. Jamal and his brother Salim (Madhur Mittal) are brought up in slums of Mumbai where they loose their mom due to a communal riot and travel along India and involve in all swindle activities. Jamal gets remembered of his childhood love Lathika (Freida Pinto) who was left alone with mobsters when they escaped from Mumbai. Jamal goes in search of Lathika, when the brothers locate her, Jamal part from his brother and Lathika with painful behavior of his brother.

Slumdog Millionaire speaks on the lives of Slum and the kids in a way which asks many questions about the whole nation. Then it clarifies the incidents as past where every thing on the slums where reality of Indian Poverty which was existing every where during 80’s and 90’s.The lives of the brothers do not go as a very emotional but it goes as the typical life void sentiments but each of them has something to offer to both of them. Lathika lingers in the minds of Jamal but his forced life makes him stay away , when he finds her he has nothing to offer her but entreat her to join him.

Anil Kapoor as the host of the show is not a guy who wants Jamal to win the show, but he answers why he puts up such a wicked face to the guy .Movie is a typical Indian movie for the treatment and the way the movie’s characters, it cannot be denied for the fact the life of the characters shown are very real and it has the equal mix of emotions and truth which makes this movie watchable. The movie is presented in three periods with the past and present and the show being in the center stage. Each answer takes the clue from the past life of Jamal and the same Jamal answer’s credibility is interrogated in the present. That’s the intelligence of the movie which has given this, a stature for this movie.

But I can not treat and cherish this movie as a great movie as I would say this still needed the magic to be called as a great movie. It’s a good movie with entertaining and close to heart emotions, and for the movie being told along with the reality show which every body loves, this movie had stole the show. Every performance of this movie is now analyzed; I loved the character Jamal when he was a kid and Jamal in Quiz show than in a lover boy. The guy Salim was really an outlaw who spells ‘God is great “.

It would be incomplete if I don’t mention this, A.R.Rahman. I am not a well educated with regard to Music but if you ask me this movie has a magic with Rahman’s back ground score. He has a soulful composition through the songs and BGM. This movie can be a turning point for the man whom we had been listening for years.

hi karthik i was reading thru this review to see what u gonna say about ARR. And u made it clear u r not gonna a spell a word about him till the last para..kudos now u started to know what a reader expects...

Apart from that the movie claims the answer D.It is written...
that siblings from same walks of life(underprivileged) travels their life ,one with honest love and the elder with agonizing obsession of money and power ends there life as they deserve..

not many may have fortune like Jamal but u ought to deserve it by character..

good review .keep going friend

Great screenplay, good casting, and performance; enough said about AR. Nothing really great about some of the yesteryear oscar nominations.

Karthik:
Try "Trainspotting" a movie from the same director and screenplay writer. A bit too loud, but was good.
