Chapter 27 (2008)

I am not a fan of Beatles or I haven’t heard their songs much ,only a slightest knowledge about their songs are with me .But when I wrote some thing about the song God and Yoko which was sung by John Lennon I was reading quiet a bit about their band .Previously I was aware that it was for John Lennon’s funeral that most number of people gathered.But I wasn’t aware of his death and how abouts.When I was going through the details about the band previously I could learn how people were mesmerised with not only on Beatles songs but also on their life style.

Chapter 27 is all about the assassin of John Lenon the legendary Lead of Beatles which happened in 1980 by Mark David Chapman.It travels in to the mind of Mark David Chapman.The last three days of the Mission of the killer. Jared Leto gained 67 pounds to play Chapman and he looked very similar like Chapman.Chapman waits for Lennon for three days and when he meets he gets a autograph in Lenon’s latest album Double fantasy after which Lennon leaves for a dinner.When Lennon and Yoko the Japanese wife returns Chapman waits opposite to Dakota Apartment building and shoots him to kill.Chapman remains in the scene till the Cops arrive to murder scene.

The movie takes place for a period of three days with out explaining much on the reason.There is no justification or reason behind his insane behaviour.But we couldn’t ask for it as Chapman was a very unwanted popular figure and people in that part of the world was aware of him.It was irritating to hear Jared Leto’s voice as an insane and selfmade crank .His inner voices had some thing to say with the book Catcher in the Rye which Chapman was reading after the murder also.But though we knew about the intentions of Chapman we were not able to travel along with his mindset as it was really uncomfortable to understand him.His behaviours and its mode of act thoroughly were unpleasant .

What could have lifted the movie was the performance but some how the performance of Jared Leto doesn’t get in to the mind ,only his appearance and his movements across makes it notable.Intensity in the role was hugely missing ,we don’t like to get in to the mind of the killer as he is not normal ,but he never allows us to watch him with patience as he irritates and his monologues with some deeper voices are truly unbearable.

I might be going against the movie but it’s a movie which can be watched to know the details as it has followed from interviews and case trial details of Chapman.It tries to take many details from the Chapman but that doesn’t make a worthy watch either.If you are interested to watch John Lennon and David Chapman you can very well choose only if you have patience.
